Big "Upgrade Project" for The Spruit. . . . .

Just saw this on FB . . . :

"Good news Spruit lovers, it has just been announced that the Spruit will receive some much needed TLC and a huge cash injection.

The number one priority will be to pave the entire Braamfontein Spruit trail from Emmarentia Dam right through to Bryanston drive.

"This will not only put a stop to soil erosion and poor drainage, but will also allow better access to the Spruit for users that cannot make use of it right now. One such user will be introducing guided Segway birding tours on Sunday mornings." - an official was quoted as saying.

Another big concern is the abundance of illegal bicycle ramps that have sprung up along the Spruit. Luckily these will be removed in line with the new improved Spruit safety policies.

Also on the cards is better security, and eventually the entire Spruit will be fenced off and access fees will be charged in accordance. Season tickets will be on offer for regular users and will help fund the project. Yearly season tickets will start from R3,800 per year for a single user, and R7,200 for family of four.

"Mountain biking is seen as 'the new golf', and users should not have any trouble coming up with the cash" - management said.

It is also planned that all alien vegetation be removed - "Alien vegetation and trees make up 90% of the riverine forest along the spruit and Delta park. It is crucial that this be removed immediately since this is one of the main reasons water is lost from the river. Independent contractors will be used who may then sell the wood as firewood."

Lastly, all informal residents of the Spruit will be allocated land for the practice of subsistence farming and plastic sorting - "there are already two known informal plastic sorting facilities along the spruit. With the help of council this will be expanded, and it will also be investigated wether more of these facilities cannot be set up along under utilised areas of the spruit. We need to embrace the the Spruit belongs to everyone, from the recreational user to the peacejob entrepreneurs"

Great news indeed!

April 1st?

Love this:  "guided Segway birding tours on Sunday mornings"

And this " "Mountain biking is seen as 'the new golf', and users should not have any trouble coming up with the cash" - management said"

Methinks this is a little, tiny bit of fact and a lot of wind-up.
