Thank you. at last some solid advice. big thumbs up

I have the 3- Door Fiesta with that spoiler, Put a Thule Roof rack with the Aero Bars (Higher Price but much quieter) its quite pricey but if you ever change cars you can simply buy the correct foot pack for the new model.

If that is an Ecoboost with aero kit don't spoil it by putting a towbar on. Best option IMO would be a roof setup.. I would go for the fork clamp setup though. There are specific ones for thru-axle and quick release. Im sure your park sensors going to go off everytime you hit reverse gear

And how on earth would a roof monstrosity spoil the look of a car less than a towbar.

Secondly, and speaking from personal experience they are a BAD idea because invariably at some point (and trust me on this) you WILL forget that the bike is on there!

My (broken)BMC SLR02 is testament to this. Also felt like a proper fool having to collect the dangling frame from Clearwater's roof parking height clearance boom!

Roof rack will work, as long as you are not a "shorty" , also you must be attentive in low places.........

uhhhh. yes. that would be my second problem. at least a step ladder would fit inside the car  :D

Went through the same issues with my hatch ...

Eventually setled on a towbar bracket from Thulle.

Now I can use it on both vehicles. Or even on a friends vehicle.

I bought a 2 bike rack. TIGHT fit for two bikes !!

Use some protection between the bikes ....

The two bike rack is a QUICK and easy fit. The three bike rack start needing tools to fit ...

Personally not a fan of the roof mounted option for the following reasons

. Drag and fuel consumption

. Head clearance ... moment of weakness and you loose a bike a garage door and possible damage to the car

. Putting the bike on the roof ... try holding your bike above the car roof ... slight slip and scrapes on the roof

IF you will be using this often and longer distances and with friends ... get the towbar mounted units with the extra tail lights and number plate where the bike stands on tracks. Wont look hot on a hot hatch ....

Hi Anine

I would have to agree that using roof rack is the best option.

I have a Peugeot 308 GTI and due to the size of the exhaust box at the back of the car, its not possible for me to fit a towbar.

Unfortunately the one time, my MTB was on the roof and caught a very low hanging cable after a very bad storm. This did result in a not so circular rear rim. The bike, car and rim were all fine thankfully.

Since then I do mostly keep my bike in the car upside down on the back seat unless I'm doing a short journey or the MTB is too muddy.

You weren't the first and wont be the last unfortunately. At least you didn't drive into your own garage.

Hi All

I own a Ford Fiesta with a large boot spoiler.

Like this:

Would a clip-on hatch type carrier even fit?

Dude I also have the Fiesta ST and use this rack.

The one set of pads on the rear window and the other on the boot door. Finished :)

Just clean the pads and the contact points on the paint. The pads will eventually scuff the paint (Have had the rack since I first got the car in 2013 and only now in the correct lighting angle can you see the scuffing).

But should be hardly noticeable on the white...I got the blue and it shows scratches WAY easily.

So don't listen to the nay-sayers about ruining your paintwork.

No problems touching the spoiler whatsoever and have carries 2 +- 15kg bikes no prob. 3 Will be a lot of fiddling to fit unless you had blankets between then.

yoh guys. no need to diss my baby.

And I don't need a boyfriend with a bakkie to do things for me either ;)

Rather respect an self-sufficient lady asking for technical advice

Tell em to piss off...The ST is going to be an icon one day. Amazing car and they're all just jelly AF.

Any chance you can show me a photo of your car with the rack fitted? I have a hard time picturing where the pads and the straps would go without the straps torquing the spoiler.

As for the paintwork on the boot door (and this is easier with the white), the plan is to apply two patches of white plastidip (removable rubber spray-on coating) on the body, where the pads would go. protects the paint and can be easily peeled off when its no longer needed :)

It's pretty self-explanatory when you try to put it on.

But here's a pic you should be able to see clearly enough :)

The tie straps don't scratch at all. The pad's also don't "scratch" really either. But after 3 years you can ee where they have been pressing...but I was never super vigilant about cleaning em or plasti-dip like you plan to do.

Thanks :)

Yeah you can adjust the length of the straps to move the whole rack up or down. No problem with the spoiler at all :)

Okay, after a weekend trip with two bikes on the back of the RAV .....

I enjoy the quick-clip two bike carrier - Thule EXPRESS - https://www.thule.com/en/za/bike-rack/towbar-bike-racks/thule-xpress-_-970000

VERY small and easy to cart along in the boot, also on the ready to quickly transport a bike in town.

BUT - not really ideal for two bikes ...  Propping up and protecting against the bikes rubbing .... bikes exposed to theft ..... not being able to get to the boot ..... uhm .... NOT the tool for a nice weekend trip.  Also this can be a bit of a pain with a full suspension bike ...

To be able to lock your bike, easier fitment to the rack, to be able to fold the rack down with the bikes loaded to access the boot, no risk of the bikes rubbing against each other - https://www.thule.com/en/za/bike-rack/towbar-bike-racks/thule-velocompact-925-_-925

CWC also stocks alternate brands, at a slightly better cost that Thuli.
