Tshwane Classic

I've received a "safe the date" e-mail from ASG- official launch is 26 July. Venue is at the Monument and route will include Union Buildings, Freedom Park and out on the N4 to harties.

Thanks. Did a quick mockup of a possible route on Google Maps that hit those landmarks and it can definitely be a nice route. Would be interesting to see what route they decide to go with in the end.

So on one day one will have the Wilro, Mangaung Classic and this event in PTA? Organisers or should I rather say CSA should be controlling the calendar better

Also the same day as the Soweto Marathon, which draws massive crowds, but they are probably pretty confident that they won't lose too many numbers due to the low percentage of marathon runners in the typical cycling peloton. However, I for one was looking at doing the Soweto Marathon this year, so they are putting me in a difficult position.

947 is only two weeks later, so they can't go to the 12th of Nov, whereas Amashova is only two weeks earlier, which means they also can't move to the 29th of Oct. So they definitely have a challenge in terms of scheduling...

Most importantly.....and this will be a BIG deal for Pretoria........

Full road closure....well....almost

Presented by ASG Events in conjunction with the City of Tshwane, the exciting news for the South African cycling community is that the city has embarked on an operational plan which will see most of the 98km route totally closed to traffic.

"...most..." as in 49.001 KM of the 98.000 KM .... ?

I received the email as well. Going to watch this race and it's development with keen interest. Not particularly sure whether I'll be able to afford Amashova + T(shwane)C(lassic) + 947.

Satellite Classic is 14/10

Amashova is 22/10

Carnival City is 29/10

Tshwane Classic is 5/11

94.7 is 19/11

I'm going to a) need some HTFU tablets, and b) disperse the insane cost of entry fees over a few months

Edit: I wonder if they'll be going over Klapperkop

It's going to be very interesting if people will do 5 in a row! Unfortunately it's impossible for me to do Carnival City.

I was also wondering about this. A race in Tshwane won't be a proper race if Klapperkop is not included. The only challenge might from there through the city to Union Buildings. You would have to cross Schoeman and Pretorius which will cause major traffic congestions. There is of course other options, but lets wait and see.

Hope they have confirmation in writing with fixed fees and all.

I did all those except Tshwane last year. Works well if you want the 2 week "break" before 947 as your focus - is what I did last year and probably this year will be the same.

Shova is great for a show of your form and the time on Shova is a good indication of the time you can do on 947.

Tshwane is just a bit too close to my race of choice... and Carnival City is a great warm up and last bit of training race - especially if you do the double mtb and road.

But if you have no set focus event and its all just for giggles - do them all.
