KAK Vraag - 28 hole rim into 32 hub

Can you lace a set of 28 spoke rims to a 32 spoke hub without problems/negative performance?

 

I have 28 hole crest rims and urgently need new back hub.

Dink nie so nie. You are going to miss 4 spokes. How do you decide which spokes must miss out? Tension needs to be the same all round.

You can, but to find a wheelbuilder willing to do the calcs will be fun. Also Crests aren't the strongest rims to start with, and at 28H you may as well buy a new wheel before you break it again.

As I suspected.

 

Rim is fine, only the hub's freebody is shod or close to .... LBS told me not to ride it. Getting a new freebody from supplier (Taiwan) going to cost me R1500 tax, shipping - the whole caboodle.

 

Then rather go new I would think.

leaving two holes on the one side of the hub at 12o'clock and 6 o'c.

and leaving the other two holes at 3- and 9 o'clock.

It can be done.

But finding a reputable wheelbuilder to such work under his name will be hard

 

(maybe ask the gap-year intern/mechanic to experiment with it)

 

honestly, just get a new rim with 32

or a hub with 28 holes( rim should be easier to find)

28hole rear hub will be hard to find second hand, my suggestion would be to sell the crest rim, and buy a complete rear wheel with 32H
