Zaffiro 23mm 24.61

Gatorskin 25mm 24.56

GP4000 23.04

Interesting measurements. Some articles suggest measuring width a few hours after inflating.

Love the Zaffiro's especially at a price point of R150 each. Problem is my 25c on a 17mm internal rim won't clear infront. Maybe I should explore Gator's next time.

Gatorskins don't offer much more protection when it comes to punctures.  Rather go for the GP 4000's.  Better rolling resistance and you can really feel it on climbs and longer distances.

Speaking from personal/real worl experience here...  the stats might tell a different story wrt puncture resistance.  A sharp shard of glass doesn't discriminate, especially on an early Saturday morning.

On the contrary, I''ve found that their puncture resistance is noticeable (having used Gatorskins and others for years).

Agree that GP4000s roll nicely (although I've thrown a couple of new GP4000s away due to cuts - they just can't continue after a gash). Gatorskins appear to have a Kevlar sidewall that laughs cuts off.

Currently using a pair of wired Gatorskin 23c tyres. Harsh ride, and made worse by washboard dirt road outside our house before the tar starts. Developing a supernatural dread for that section.

Complete agree, Gatorskins may feel like 6-ply bakkie tires, but I have found them to be incredibly tough

This is apparently a longstanding issue with tyres.

People look at two numbers, the width and the weight. everyone takes the first as gospel and put the second to the test by weighing the tyres.

As a 23mm tyre is lighter than an identical one that is 25mm wide,  stamp it 25 and make it 23 and the weight weenies and comfort seekers will both be happy.

Have to agree with what he said ^^^^^

Further to this, Gatorskins are tough tyres. So expect all of the loveliness described by Eddy to be absent. Their very purpose precludes comfort. But fewer punctures is also good, so there's that. You might find that a nice supple 23c tyre would be a nicer ride than a 25c Gatorskin.

During my VERY long ride this weekend I tried out some 23c Gatorskins, and to be very honest, I felt little difference to the 25c GP4000S IIs.. The GPs are lighter, confirmed by my handy scale.

Getting some 25c Gators (not Hardshell) soon and will make a comparison again.

I would go that route too. The 25c foldable Gatorskins are actually quite plush.
