I currently run with a Cannondale Hollowgram  1 x 11 crankset on my Scalpel but realised that I am too old to enjoy it .

I want to replace it with an XT 2 x 11 crankset .

The Scalpel has a PF30 BB so what else do I need to buy/do to make this work ?

Thanks

Kudos for confirming some of us are just more suited to the ease of running 2x10/11. Every tom dick and henriette is changing to 1x just because. Been trying to avoid the pressure of spending more money just because everyone is.

What size cassette are you currently running? That might be the problem. Nowadays you can fix any "gearing" issue by fitting the right cassette.

Personally I think there is a lot of hype and marketing around the whole 1x thing. I have had 1x and still have it on one of my bikes but my race 29er is 2x10 and I don't think I will be changing it soon. I see no value in 1x except for no FD and shifter. But the loss of comfortable gear ratios does not make up for it. Not every bike is an enduro rig...

the jumps in ratios are either too big or the spread is not wide enough - this is always an issue and the fact the SRAM has those ridiculous eagle cassettes just proves the point.

Gearing designed to be efficiently utilized by 25% of the intended market without some issue is a fail if you are truly honest.

I think 2x10 or 2x11 was/is perfect. Always funny spinning past a 1x rider that does not have the gears to climb and then the same when powering past spun out 1x.

IMO.

I watched an insert on Toyota Cadence on SS where they were interviewing Karl Platt with regards to this topic. He reckons if you live in Hamburg, 1x is suited for the flattish terrain, and if you ride the Epic, 2x is the way to go, as you need that extra bit of leeway on the climbs.

So stoked with my 2x SRAM groupset on my Camber. My boet, who rides the Anthem with 1x just does not keep up with me, either on the flats (outright pace of the "big" blade) or on the climbs (grannier granny gear)

Also busy converting my Scalpel from 1x11 (GX) ; (10/42 rear - 34 oval ring at front) back to 2x10 (XO) (42/28 front and rear 11/36)

Same gear ratio as my hard tail and much more suited for the type of riding I do

I prefer my gear ratio closer with each shift - more into marathon riding

The 1 x range is fine, but always needs gears in between...

You'll need this thing.

If you've got an account with Rush, give Andre a shout and confirm.

Not a cheap purchase, but the bearings are replaceable and available separately, so it's a once off.

Interesting.

I was at the Momsen shop/office/warehouse yesterday, and the new bikes are coming out in 2x or 1x options as they apparently recognize that lots of people prefer or is better suited for 2x.

they don't want to force us into 1x

I like this

oh and the new Vipa trail, a thing of beauty, 120mm of travel

Went back to 2x11 myself and what a pleasure to ride! Prefer the ratios they are much closer together and far easier to find the right gear.

All this bollox about 1x11 or 1x12 for that matter is exactly that, a load of BS! My buddy and I have exactly the same bike, he has eagle and I run XT 2x11 and the weight difference is 200g and he has carbon rims so I am sure most of it is there.

Welcme back to the dark side, it is so much better over here!
