Your B Tension Screw should be adjusted to give you about 2mm clearance between your cassette and your derailer wheel, when in the biggest sprocket.

See photo below.

This should help you also.

Best I can explain it, when in your 11 (or 10), your derailer should be in a horizontal position, with the chain not rubbing against your cassette, and with no slack in the chain. Refer to the pick I posted previously.

Do you not mean 12mm?

In my experience I have found the best shifting performance and chain retention with the chain as short as possible, all the other things being correct as mentioned (B screw crucial)

so anyway...

back to my question.

SRAM 11-46 or Shimano 11-46 ?

Incase anyone else wants to do this, a 20c coin fits perfectly in tension bolt and will open with that. No Special tool required!

Neither.

Sunrace, much better spread of ratios, and a lot cheaper too...

Edit: Sunrace = 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-36-40-46t

Shimano =         11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-46

i went 11-50

just to confirm, I'm strugging to get this up to 50 because the chain is too short??

Correct. That chain wouldn't make it over the big cog even without the derailleur being involved.

Thanks, I counted the links. It's 109 on that chain including the quicklink. I will get a 116 link chain later today.

Done and Done

Thanks again the help. New Chain is 116 Links.

I went for a Test Ride at Meerendal this weekend. Bike Climbs like a dream, I can't say the same about the rider though  :whistling:

Looks great....that chainring looks ssssoooooooooo tiny now!!!!!

Are you using the medium or long caged derailleur? Can't make it out cause of that monster cassette throwing off the proportions a little  :P
