Good day

I'm currently looking at buying the following bike?

Cannondale CAAD 5 si,
Think 2002 model
Saeco branding on it
Carbon blade forks
Alu frame
Shimano 105 cassette, crank and brakes
Sora gear shifters
Gatorskin tyres 50% thread

Price 3500

My concerns, it's a fairly old bike and I'm scared the components could break and would cost me more than buying an entry level new road bike.

Is it worth the price.

I'm a new rider doing the 94.7 on a mtb with slicks and considering doing it on a road bike.

My budget is 4k

Lots of caad fans on the forums, it depends largely though on how it has been maintained and what condition the drivetrain is in.

Do you have any pics you can post?

Some american reviews suggest that caad 3 to 5 are very harsh bikes. I've never rode a road bike so wouldnt know what to expect.

They are very stiff frames but not as harsh as some carbon frames out there.

Looks like a good buy.

How tall are you and what size is the frame?Looks like a 52 or 54cm

Sound like it'll work for you then.

Theres no reason to sell that frame. You can upgrade the parts over time but the frame is good.

Mario Cipollini says that the CAAD 5 in Saeco colours is a very kiff bike on which he won more green jerseys that I have had hot dinners.

I think that it is a classic and if the frame fits, buy it and upgrade the components to give you a very desirable bike.

Good idea - that's what I would do !!

I still have my CAAD4 with 9 speed Shimano Dura Ace and it still rocks. I have done 150 to 200 km rides on it no problem. You just have to have a comfy saddle and I put 2 layers of bar tape on the handlebar.

Looks in good shape.

I still ride a CAD 3 and love it.

One thing with a Cannondale Alu frame, they stay nice and stiff, unlike a lot of other brands around.

For R3500 I say its not a bad deal.
