mecheng89 Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 HI Hubbers, As some of you might've noticed I put out a Wanted ad for a specific indoor trainer. I was contacted by a person who calls themselves Hans Hatting via SMS telling me he has one for sale. Long story short, I made use of a very kind Hubber to check out the goods for me but we were stood up. What made this very peculiar is that he didn't demand money up front like your typical scammer, he just kept quiet and I haven't heard from him since.
IH8MUD Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Do I have the correct? He did not take your money. He just stood you up . . . and is quiet since? His phone could have been stolen, and have been to busy with life to let you know. Selling a home trainer might not be high in his priority list. Just possible alternatives. Not pitching for a meeting is bad style, but it does not make you scammer? You suffered no loss of money, just inconvenience. But hey . . . perhaps he is a scammer. Let's lynch him.

Screenshot_20171023-171302.pngI got messed around by someone for a 27.5 for almost a month...setting up viewings then cancelling at the last minute... The guy wasn't a scammer, just plain useless....
Rudi Pollard Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 In what way is this a scam, as he didn't attempt to get any money from you without providing goods. Bad manners maybe, but very misleading topic
Mongoose! Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 This topic has the potential to do much better on a Friday

Matt Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Hi guys, The OP made contact with me a while back to look into this to avoid a lynching on raising this. On face value as others say not necessarily a scam, but definitely bad form. However we did pick up a user who'd viewed this ad with some very suspicious behaviour regarding wanted ads specifically. While we can't explicitly connect this user to "Hans" the timing of the message suggests that they could be the same person. While neither behaviour confirms them as a scammer, it does raise some suspicion. I suggested the OP reach out to Hubbers to see if anyone else has had similar experiences so we can either clear up any misunderstanding or confirm suspicions. I'll amend the topic title to better reflect the situation.
