Lager or pilsner? Ale or weiss? Sauvignon or chenin? Pinotage or merlot? Etc...etc...etc

Matter or personal opinion and preference. If you have only ever used one then try the other. You won't know if you don't try. I like both. Shimano is great, Sram is great.

Seeing as how you ask for opinion. SLX is great, XT is great, GX is great, NX is great, X1 is great etc...I had formula rx brakes, thought they were great, now I have SLX, they are awesome. Used to have SLX, XT and XTR, now I have X1 drivetrain and they all work very well.

SRAM for MTB.

Shimano for Road.

As easy as that.

I take it back C.A.M.P.A.G.N.O.L.O for Road.

After talking to my friend with his experience with Campy, I was mind-blown.

Campy is definitely growing on me.

Well what did he say that made you a convert all of a sudden?

Just on what level Campy is. They are in a league of their own.

Carbon bling does play a bit of the factor, but just the cassette ratio's of their range, the ability to move your front derailleur just where you want it (no trimming which I have to do on my Shimano), that you can shift multiple jumps on the cassette, Italian handmade.

The only downside is that they are a little bit more expensive than their Shimano counterpart.

But that's the only negative I heard.

I stick to Shimano on my MTB as I do not like the 1X trend. Gear jumps are too big. Weight savings are negligible. Reliability, well I keep my bike and gears clean so I never have shifting issues. I can climb well enough with my current ratios. And can shift onto my 40T when the 1X's are spinning out on the downs. And I don't need to list semi-used rings on the used market because i need to go up or down 2 teeth in size. I can just shift rings for that. And I also don't have a dinner plate on my rear wheel. So yeah.

What are the weight saving actually, I would imagine that it would be quite a bit or does the cassettes weigh a lot more than 10 speed ones?

One very big upside to not going the 1x11 or 1x12 route is that you can pick up dirt cheap shimano xt or xtr components!

Wel, as ek jy was, het ek vandag nog daai ultegra van jou verkoop, en EvanB se Chorus group gekoop met die geld....

En ja, als is waar, maar jy moet dit eers ry voor jy regtig weet!

Not as big as you would think it would be. Especially considering all the ratios you loose.

Last time I did the math it was around 150g to 200g depending on the set up from XTR 2x11 to a XO Eagle. But the minute you wear out that XO cassette it's either $$$ or slap on the heavy steel stamped GX and suddenly the weight advantage evaporates.

The biggest issue is the weight you save by loosing the shifter and the ring up front is put back on with that dinner plate cassette. You can't even say you are saving rotational mass either really since it's all getting packed on to the back wheel again anyway!
