Rockshox Seal popping out

Got a Reba dual air and a frame off the hub a few weeks ago and on the second ride it seemed to loose -ve pressure, pumped it up and 2km into the ride the left fork seal popped out.

As it was second hand thought it just needed a service, new seal kit installed by the bike shop on Friday all seemed fine on short Saturday shakedown ride.

Just had a look and the seal has popped out again, any idea what could be causing it?

I had the same issue a couple of years ago when I used to own a dual air Reba. The cause was air leaking from the positive chamber to the negative chamber. A simple lowers service with new dust wiper seals won't solve the problem, the air shaft assembly needs to be checked for faulty seals etc.

Thanks for the replies; any idea where I can get it checked? No point taking it back to LBS

Take it to Jason Geldenhuys at The Practice in Linden (from tomorrow) or Mikes bikes in Greenside.

Thanks V12man on my way to Mikes Bikes

It could be serious or it could be minor. The 'seals' in the air shaft assembly are just o-rings and a damaged one will cause this.

It could also be that the inside of the stanchion is damaged but this is less likely.

When this happened to me it got sent to the agents who promptly declared that the stanchion was damaged beyond repair and quoted a new set for R5k or something. I asked for the fork to be returned to me and upon inspection there was no damage at all in the stanchion. I replaced the o-rings and the fork has never had an issue again.

Sounds like what ALLMTB said.  More serious would be damage to the shaft or stanchion.  You will need to remove the lowers to see.  If you are near me I can check it out.  072 222 7185.

Thanks David but I have already dropped it off at Mike's Bikes its close to my office

This can happen to the solo air versions as well. On a hard hit during a race a friends Sid lost all air pressure and the dust wiper popped out on the left. Basically the air leaves the spring and escapes from the stanchion by popping the dust wiper out. In his case at a previous service a cir-clip or something like had been left out when the air spring was reassembled which probably caused the leak. Its been fine since a mild service.

Stanchions are lightly scoured but o-rings are squared off and hard. Replacing the o-rings and will see if there is still air leakage.
