1x (Sram Force 1), is it truely worth it on the road?

I run this exact set up on my TT bike.

Its the business.

Handles the cradle/broadacres route (1100m climbing in 70km) with zero issues.

Rode a 52t 11-28 ratio over the weekend and only really started to grind at a 10% pitch.

Honestly 1x is the way to go.

You climb East London tri ok with 52-28?  I will happily stick with my 39-28  :P .  For Durbs I hardly get out of the 53, so is an option for that race.

Will post feedback, it is for my son. He is definitely a grinder. Seldom he goes onto the small ring, then normally drops his chain in a race. Done it three times this year already in a race.

54/36 is an easier gear than 39/25, I don't think my son has every used the 25 in his life. So even the 36 on the 1x is not going to get used.

I am more worried about the technical aspects of the conversion, going to buy a derailleur extender attachment and use with normal Shimano 10 speed rear derailleur. The narrow wide chain rings they sell on Aliexpress, all different sizes. Go with a 10 speed Cassette for MTB. I converted my MTB to 1x and did have problems with component selection at first. These were sorted out in the end after a bit of trial and error.

The chaps at Wolftooth have done some sterling work on conversion.

Roadlink should be the way to go for you

Would probably throw a 34 on there for Hemingways.

Once you try it, you will never go back.

For the prototype, going to use these two.

So today I had my first ride on the one by and I have to express my opinion in such a sence that it was very welcoming on changes from downhill to uphill, arpund corners etc. I have experienced nice cadence with a bit of trouble on a climb on my route. Well 44km's and I am satisfied. I am however still a bit worried about cadence when going for a 11-36T as to compensate for the smaller chainring. But I will have my opinion on that after the 94.7 race, testing the one by and a bit wider range cassette under strain.

P.S. I am still running a 11-28T cassette now with a 50T chainring upfront.

Just slapped this rotor crank with a 40 oval front (11-34 rear) on my MonsterCross. Had a 36 round up to now ... Will see how it is tomorrow, don't ride any Alps so should be fine [emoji41]09ec648ddeb521f595acb739bad28a52.jpg

On a completely different side note, Martin PJ, if you go 1x with the O's in 'loose' you get 'lose', which is definitely a better choice when referring to something being lost... If you become lighter you lose weight and your belt becomes loose...

Grammar Nazi, did you get triggered? My apologies.

We need to respect the immutable laws of cycling protocol, etiquette and decency.  When we don't,  we end up in the anarchistic jungle in which ankle socks, frame mounted pumps and hyrdopacks exist - a brutish and vicious hell.

One-by for road should only be for fixies/singlespeeds.  The ungodly hybrid beasts shown above have no place, and are an abomination.  Its ins the bible.  Somewhere.  Look it up

Aqua Blue are being sponsored and they have team mechanics to change cassettes and chainrings as needed. I see it as purely being a marketing exercise to promote the product. Team bikes are still governed by the weight limit so no matter how light your bike 'could be' it still has to conform to regulations so it means adding weight somewhere else. If SRAM thought it was that great an idea why was it nor rolled out to Red or E-tap?

You can use your down-tube shifter (non-indexed, of course) to mark the page where it's written....
