As I am slowly rebuilding my bike, I'm now on the brakes. I'm currently using Juicy 3 which is realy amazing for the money. They will go back to the Raleigh.

Now my choices are Juicy 5s or Shimano XT. There is about R150 price difference per side, the Juicys being. I like the Juicys because they are small and the pads can be changed without tools. And when you buy them you do not need to specify which is left or right. The XT just looks great and it will go great with the rest of my groupset. I've ridden with XTR ones and they are amazing so I guess the XTs will not be far off.

Any comment of hub members? Please do not suggest other makes although I would really like Magura Louise carbons but they are way out of my price bracket and I don't know if there are any SA support for them. And please no links to MBR or other review sites.

I've got the XT's on my 'goose, excellent brakes and quite frankly they look the sh!t...! I'm quite fussy 'bout my group sets matching, if i have one thing XT, it must all be XT. Or at the very least all shimano or all sram/avid/truvativ... The pads aren't a mission to change on the XT...

You most probably don't even 50% of your disk brakes power . What you actaully want to know is which one looks better and are the easiest to work on . Then you will have to go XT . Bottom of the range Hayes is also fine . ooops sorry different brand !! Since when have you became a brand whore anyway ?

im currently riding xt brakes.  really easy to maintain and set up and great stopping power.

had juicy 7s on my last bike but prefer the feel of shimano hands down...

i'm very happy with my juicy's - i think they're the 7s. As you say they are easy to swap and changing brake pads is much easier.

not having ridden with XT's i can't comment on them.

Well I think it's down to personal choice. I like the XT's cause they really are great breaks(tried them out on a buddy's bike), but then again so are the juicy 5s.

The XT will look great if it mach the rest of your groupset, I'm a shimano fan so I would go for the XTs. What do they price by the way?

Personaly I have LXs on my scott that work good!, but I prefer the magura's on my cannondale, they're a pleasure...

I've ridden Juicy 7's and now have XTR's Wink. They're much of a muchness, but the XTR's look the part. I also like to have a complete groupset on my bike, so I'd suggest you go for the XT's.

XTs were great, juicy 5s(havnt tried them but have heard they give problems) why dont you try the oro K18s, im riding them now and cant complain, they are very powerfull and light and also look good to. Best brakes in the world as rated by mountain biker mag uk.

XT's definately. Had Oro 18's and had more trouble than ever. Got the XT's all trouble gone. Can swap the pads myself. I have seen the Hope brakes and they look nice. Their other products are very good, I am riding the hubs on my 29'er and they are awesome. Only problem might be support where you can not go wrong with Shimano.

If you're deciding between Juicy Five or XT, definately Juicy. Even the Three's will give the XT's a go.

I'm I'm not just saying that cause I'm a Avid fan. I'm actually a Formula Oro fan, but Avid brakes punch way beyond their weight.

Had Juicy 5's which eventually packed up. There was apparently a problem with the machining of the pots. They rode very well until then.

I now ride XT 2008 dc and they are fantastic.

Both are great brakes.
