Them and Katusha need some big results and very soon..they are keeping each other company way way down on the bottom of the WT rankings.

Well with Katusha's state sponsored "support" now having dried up and DDs oupa crashing more often than he starts, its a matter of time before they become ProConti again.

That, sadly, is looking like a very distinct reality. The folly of signing a big star on the wane for too long a period.

Apparently Team Astana's state funding is also going south

The have secured finances for a few more years.

Hate to admit it but I do like the Katusha clothing / cycling kit. Not a hint of dripping gold oligarch about it.

Just found out that Ian Boswell is now with them. He must be exceptionally happy about how he's flourished to anonymity along side Tony Martin since slipping in to the red kit.

I do not think Yates' performance is inconsistent or out of line with his career achievements so far. He has for example previously beaten Dumoulin and Pinot in a stage race so there is no reason why he cannot be ahead of them at this stage on a course that suited him so far. As far as the comment of Tim Wellans is concerned it must be remembered that Yates previously won a world title in the points race on the track so obviously he is explosive and can generate huge power.

Don't forget he also have won stages in Catalunya and Paris Nice in the build up and was 4th and 2nd overall respectively. He's also taken young rider in the Tour and 6th at the Vuelta. He's got that track background that gives him extra angel that is working well for him. Will be interesting to see how him and the team go in the high mountains with multiple peaks in a stage and the stresses that puts on a team that is defending a jersey.

I think he'll lose the jersey on the TT and then look to get it back over the final stages. I'm 50/50 between TomD and Yates for the win. TomD is looking very good and unflappable at the moment.

Noticing that the Cannondale boys are running mixture of their SuperSix and an ugly aero frame today.

So judging by the meat on the front it's Viviani vs Bennett vs Modolo today.

I love / hate the way that italian smaller teams jerseys are so chaotic with all the mess of sponsors. I guess it's quite reflective of the slightly demented organisation of 2nd teir italian cycling teams.
