Hey hubbers,

Which type of grip do you prefer for your mtb: Silicone or lock on grips?

and why?

Going to get red grips soon, just not sure which type to go for

Thanks

Mixed feelings.

I like the vibration absorption from a silicone grip, but do not like the "give" you get from it when working the bars hard on a climb (Especially on a SS).

Then with a Lock on grip....prefer the inboard lock on grips, as I tend to run my hands on the ends of the bars, and a dual lock on grip puts pressure on the outside of my hands. I do like the direct feeling you get with a std "rubber" type lock on grip vs the more vague feeling on a silicone grip.

Recon the best feeling for me is going with a conventional "rubber" type slide on grips with good feel and no hard plastic shell under the rubber, it tends to have a slightly thicker rubber section ... only thing is that over time they tend to twist sometimes .... but there are ways to remedy this.

Suensus Swayze grips are the business. Grippy, soft, rad.... they come slide on or lock on.

I am also really enjoying my DMR Death Grips... small flange, rad ribbed inner section and a big block that runs on the underside of the grip that 'locks' your fingers in place.

Used to swear by Silicone grips but 1 fall and they are throw aways, the bar plugs land up a shambles and if you swap out bars ot try something new they aren't very easy to manage.

The quality of top end lock ons these days is exceptional

I got mine in Feb and they have done some miles... EA and a heap of hard wearing riding (and falling) and still look brand new... Highly recommend them!

I used to like the Giant lock-on grips that I used on my Scott Spark, but ever since I upgraded to the 2018 Trance the stock lock-on grips really stuff up my hands. So I changed to some extra chunky silicone grips, and I'm loving it. The suspension takes care of the bumps and the grips take care of the vibration. Between the two of them, I'm having a very lekker ride. Twisting is something you can fix. For instance, I watched a guy build a trail bike and when he fitted the grips, he stuck a strip of thin double sided tape on each bar end before sliding them on with a mist of water or something. Once they settle, those things are stuck AF.

I used lock on grips earlier this year, and switched to silicon in May, along with changing my gloves, got Fox Rangers without padding. My hands dont go numb as often anymore.

Dont think I'll use anything other than silicon again.

Lock-on grips. And more specifically Fabric grips.

Also eyed those out, they have a good feel to them ... kind of between a silicone and rubber grip

Which ones? I've got the extra long ones for wider bars and I find the grip too hard. Even with gloves, very little give and not in a nice way like conventional lock ons
