Flip! Well done Bats!

Thanks guys.  The weather was good but temps are dropping steadily.  Life will become tough soon on the bike... :(

Bats, when does your commute normally end? ie when it becomes to cold to cycle?

I want to work out if i have enough time to catch you. :)

Difficult to say.  When temps go below -4 but even then it depends on the ice danger.  I should be able to continue till end of October at least.  Can't say what will happen in November.  It has been an exceptionally long summer this year.

I've started doing the odd commute when I'm at my company's office. (Client is far and doesn't have showers I can use.)

The commute is fairly short: 7.1km, 134m elevation gain (details) But I still need a shower when I get to work. I try make sure I take it easy.  I leave home at about 7:45 and arrive at work at about 8:15. Is there something I can do so that I don't need a shower when I get to work?

(I don't care about the ride home - it's much easier showering at home.)

As it stands it will take something special to catch your total even if you stop end of October.

But i will accept the challenge. :)

Bad news Samson, looking at the Accuweather site - Temps look good right up to mid Nov in Munich. I'm afraid the writing is on the wall....

Hi Gary I see no one has responded yet. Not sure how to prevent the need for a shower. At a previous workplace where there was no showers, I just washed my hair in a basin (I get terrible helmet hair) and wiped off.

I have heard of guys walking the climbs to not sweat as not showers at work.

So try walking the first 2.8 km or spin up it really easy

You can also try leave earlier when it is cooler and have coffee close to work to cool down.

Congrats on making the jump to commuting - (it's the logical evolution of transport in this high priced fuel climate :D .) With regards to sweating, I'm afraid the news is bad - the fitter you get the easier you'll sweat. So even a 15minute stroll will get you sweating, add on the summer heat and it won't be soon before projectile sweat starts raining off of you.

The "basin shower" is the best option for a shower-free zone.

You have babies in the house? Wet wipes china.

Our shower was out of action for a while. I found that hanging around outside in the wind until the sweating stopped helped a lot. Sometimes I even did a few very slow laps around the parking lot.

Anything else is pointless unless you can stop the sweating.

Question to my fellow competitors.  Tommorow I need to drive my wife into town for a conference as she still suffers with her elmbow that was broken when she drives a car for about an hour.  So I will be  taking her there and the commute with my bike home and leave the car at the venue and tommorow afternoon commute back and drive her back.  Would that commute to valid commuting miles in this challenge?

It's a yes in my book.

So my Saturday commute did not pan out as planned yesterday.  Drove to the venue to drop my wife and the car there.  Bike and all loaded in the back just to get there and find no parking on the street and the venue parking was going to be 10€.  That is almost a qaurter tank of Diesel.  Bugger that.  Dropped the wife off and drove back with the car and collected her later again.
