Sram Eagle Question

Hi there

I'm riding Sram Eagle GX 12 speed and find I run out of gears at just over 40kmhr which is slower than my old 2x10 setup.

I'm checking if anyone is riding a 34T chainring as opposed to the generally standard 32T.

I'm riding Barberton XC NEXT week and all going ok hope to try a 34T before Route 66.....

A 34t chain ring will give you an easy gear ratio of 0.68 - that's a very easy gear - so I think you should be fine. I switched over to a 34t this morning on my 1x11 set up, I am weak on hills and found my easiest gear (46t = 0.74 ratio) was still enough to spin up almost anything.

Not sure what you 2x10 set up was, but lets say you were running a fairly standard  28/40 x 11/36 theyou would have spun out around 50km/h...

Why? Plenty of guys make boost chain rings. cSixx comes to mind. Or does your frame not allow?

Trek Fuel EX has max 32T chainring

Is it because of clearance issues?

The Cedar Square Spaz guys had a look. Yip, the Stumpie frame is toight. The wider chain stay, for 6fattie, barely fits 32t. Initial setup was 1 x 11 with 28t c-ring.

Ah I see... I also have a Stumpy - tried to fit a 32t oval (which is the same size as a 34t round at it's biggest part) - was very tight! Bit of a pity hey - hopefully with the next update they increase the capacity to 36t for the Eagle guys.

I use a 36T and managed to climb Spioenkop at Berg and bush no problem... seated. With the 50 on the rear I cant imagine you would need anything less than a 34T

34t for sure. When I went 1x11 it took me about 100m of riding to start looking for that ‘extra’ gear.... fitted the 34t and it was spot on. Even managed Iconic with the 34t, although I was about 2% over my limit.....

With Eagle I decided to stay on the 34t because I got so use to it. Using a 34t oval the clearance on the frame is at the limit, therefore in theory I might be able to fit a round 36t.
