Doesnt the lesser known Atherton..Dan the man.... Build an insanely difficult course every year

Well.. He uses the same course.. Just tweaks it

Very few Elite ladies racers would ride the Hardline course, not to mention the Juniors.

Even guys like Gwin would protest the difficulty or risk/reward ratio of that course.

We're all happily daydreaming here. Putting others' well-being at risk for our selfish entertainment. No need to burst the bubble with reality and sense.  ;)

But let's continue on your train of thought. The tracks we see today, are they at a point where they are at a challenging enough level without excluding too many riders? Or is there room for some more progression?

Please define what you mean by progression?

that word, ai. the cycling industry is peddling that concept to death. Pun intended  ^_^

Whether it's leogang of before, if you go fast enough, will be challenging to even the very best of the best.it wouldn't be a world cup venue, nor would so many pretenders to the throne fail to even qualify for the finals.

But it's not about progression, I think it's the type of track.

Val di Sole, Schladming of old, the lower third of leogang: something more natural, less 'refined'/constructed would be what most want to see, because really, that's the sort of track that puts all the skills of a rider on display.

Leogang motorway is a test of tuck and jump. yay. Jeeptrack champs.

Even XCO has recognized that a bit of gnarliness is part of the challenge of MTB, that was 'progression' for them.

But for DH, the tracks 'seem' to have walked the rough, natural terrain back to the more manicured stuff. Seems being the operative word. I'm sure i'll need a medivac to get down properly. but this is not about Joe ordinary. this for the Elite of the sport of DH.Enduro has become more DH than DH. Many enduro pros are saying this.  case in point: Martin Maes and Sam Hill almost rolled onto the podium in their recent world cup (10th) and world champs (6th) races respectively, after not racing DH for months. For sure, they have lost race sharpness for DH,but they sure as hell didn't struggle either. Compared to their well raced competitors, they did bloody damn good!

Pinkbike fantasy teams updated, boys?

Who's the top pick for VdS?

I think Gwin is sand bagging with that thumb brace.

Pierron may just run out of luck this time

Shaw is fast  - his luck must change, maybe

Tahnee is ripped

Dak Norton has a cool name

Eddie is fast but unsteady

Greg has an owie.

it was on PB i think, that another world cup racer described Pierron's commencal as "the magic carpet ride"..

that's high praise, unless they think Pierron looks like aladdin :P

Check these two hackers riding down the Black Snake. Gives a far better idea what the track is like than, for instance, a Danny Hart Go Pro.

Pierron don't need no luck - Frenchie is fast AF.

Rachel has got her head on straight again and is cocky, I mean, confident. That makes her dangerous. That being said, Nicole is riding at her absolute best and is still faster than Rachel in the tech sections of the tracks; that should play in her favour at VdS. Tahnee is just not quite up to speed this season.

Shaw is most definitely the man to beat, IF he can put a clean race run together.

Maybe SuperBruni makes an appearance this weekend.

Can also count on Brosnan 'always the bridesmaid, never the bride' on making it onto the podium.
