Long Wheel Base Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Stage 1: Thomas De Gendt majestic in the breakaway move as always and beats peloton home by more than 2 minutes Stage 2: Uphill Sprint finish sees Impey going for the line but Bling takes the win and Valverde 2nd to leave SA champ in 3rd place. Good to see Impey racing again. Stage 3 will be one for the climbers to target... Nice spread of stages thus far.Jurre I was fuming. Don't like that cheat.Impey went a bit early IMHO but damn when he went he had power.

Also very chuffed that Dan Martin took 3rd ahead of Quintana who only seemed to want to follow wheels instead of working or attacking himself. I like Bernal a little bit more than Yates, but not too fussed about pos 1 and 2. Some fireworks coming the rest of this week.

I think Quantana is struggling to come to grips with the fact that Bernal is taking over his position as the best Columbian stage racer and as a result is very reluctant to work with him. A peron cannot help to like de Gent.... many riders are more talented but in terms of pure grit and determination he is absolutely top class. It is highly unlikely that he will hang on to the leaders jersey for another day but he has already performed way above expectation taking into consideration the climbing talent present in the race.
