Gamin Questions

Im hoping that some of you clever folks can assist me with these two things as I switched from my perfectly workable Edge 500 to a 520 and now have these issues.

1) On Garmin Connect I see a bunch of segments that I didn't create for segments that I have ridden, and I would like to remove them instead of always selecting "segments I created", those others are just noise to me and on the iphone app there is no way to filter them out. I have searched all over and I cannot find a way to remove them.

2) While I was riding today the virtual rider thing regularly told me that I was behind on distance and time, but when I uploaded the ride I got PB's on most segments, so who the heck was I behind, I assumed it would be behind my own PB? I wonder if this is connected to the segments that I don't actually want.

Thanks

Read the owners manual for all your questions...frequently asked questions section.

These are all just settings

Nope.

There isn’t anything in the manual that speaks of using Garmin connect via a web browser and how to remove those segments.

Nor does it explain why I was being told that I was behind the virtual rider when I was in front.

The virtual rider can either be your PB, a Strava friends PB or the KOM. You can choose which and the name of whose time you are chasing will show on the screen when the segment is "activated" when riding.

Edit: On your 1st question. Not sure what you mean but you can choose between Strava sections and Garmin sections. If you choose Strava sections the only sections that come up on the virtual partner is the sections you "starred" on Strava

Thanks, I don't see how to switch between them in the manual but I'll check on the device later.

On the first question, the segments that appear as starred are the ones I created, I have no idea where the others come from and these are the ones Im looking to get rid of, but I have no idea of how.

I have not connected Garmin connect with Stava and have checked on both that they are not linked.

Ok - my answer assumed you used the Strava segments - don't know how the Garmin segments work. Maybe the Strava segments is a better option? Haven't had any of the problems you experienced using that.

On the virtual rider thing, I find that when I see that screen, it uses a predefined average speed to determine whether I'm ahead or behind... That's a setting somewhere... The manual will help here. Set it too low and you're always ahead and vice versa... Anyway, I see it as super-arb, because it's route and weather dependent, so I don't even bother with it and have disabled that screen

It's not the case for (Strava) live segments, there your ride is compared against a recorded ride as it happened ie the virtual rider also goes slower on climbs, faster on downhills, (maybe even stop to rest if the original oke or you did that when he/you recorded his ride) - far more useful than a straight average km/h

agreed, but for the strava stuff, you need a premium membership, and I don't see the value in that. The Garmin live segments are hamstrung by everything being Strava-based and not Garmin that i see no value in using the Garmin segments... that leaves me back at the straight average. which i see little value in...
