Pretty much the same but also carry a derailleur hanger and a spare set of pads. Don't take up much more space and the hanger has saved me in the past. I sometimes take a mini leatherman that has pliers which are as usefull as that big hammer.

NO, but there are many of them lying around.

Something I am also thinking of packing is lube. Not wanting to open a can of worms here but I have on occasions come short with 10 -20 to go where that chain creaks and just drives me nuts.

I also carry almost all of the stuff mentioned, except for the small kettle.  Cable ties, never leave the home/start without them, 30cm binding wire & dental sidecutter, small bottle of lube and sunblock

If its a race of +- 50km, then the same as Marius except I'll use a 750 ml bottle and not a Camelbak.

On the Mazda Marathon series I take a Camelbak purely for the additional liquid.

1 X 2.0L camel pack

2 X tubes

2 X co2 bombs

Chain break

small allen key set

Anything that breaks and i can't fix with the above, i consider my race done and wait for the sweep vehicle

Certainly no cell phone

20 ronds folded up and slipped into small cut on the hem of my shirt (only on training rides)

We get hijacked in Gauteng so carry as little as possible

I know why. Because after you've used both your bombs on you tube you are screwed.

Replacement derrailure hanger is very NB. My partner at Sani2c broke his and ended up riding a single speed for a day and a half as he could not get a replacement over night. You can imagine how happy I was!

Not wanting to hijack the thread.... it's a directly related question.....

Looking at the packing lists here and thinking about the Cape Epic, is

a camelbak the only answer, or is it simply the best answer?

I ask because I'm switching from hardtail to full susser and usually ride with at least one, and often two, full 700ml bottles for longer rides - one electrolyte, the other a Carb / protein mix. Now that's not going to work with the full susser frame, bottle size fitting or number of bottle cage mounts.
