Hey guys

Thanks for all the great reviews on the Star Seat. Did you know it’s a 100% South African product? We make it here in Plettenberg Bay. The seat is now available on Takealot and at Sportsmans. We also supply many small bike shops around the country.

The star seat was built to get toddlers involved in the cycle, make them part of the ride. It really does help teach them balance and basic cycling skills. That said, whenever you cycle with a passenger you’ve got to be aware of their limits as well. The back mounted seats are great for putting little ones to sleep, but the Star Seat is all about the fun! It’s a great way to build quality time and keep getting out there once the kids have arrived.

Feel free to call Ritchie, the seat creator, if you have any questions - 073878.9507 or check out the revised website www.starseat.co.za.

We’ve had great feedback from the likes of Stephan Saam and Nino Schurter, who both use and enjoy the seat with their kids.

I'm still using the star seat with my 6yr old on the school run. We do do some tech stuff: g spot, coetzenburg xc trail. Or my daughter's run (she's 4) - Eden. Special times. Thanks for an awesome product.

Trying to convince mommy to let me take the twins out for a ride (one at a time obviously). Seeing it as an option to get more saddle time. They are 15 months this week so I reckon it's a good age to start. Only issue is that I only have a dually. Mommy won't be happy if I invoke N+1 to get a hardtail

The Feva seat will work just fine! I use mine on my dual sus with dropper post .Took my little girl out from about 18 months on the feva and she absolutely loves it. Everytime she sees the bike she says "fietsie ry ry.."

I bought what is essentially a Thule rear carrier knock-off at Makro for R500 (see link below), and it's worked great so far. My daughter's been riding along since the beginning of July (when I bought my bike) when she was a smidge under two years, and no issues yet.

Look, it's not a McLaren-quality baby chair, and for R500 you shouldn't expect it to be, but the plastic's tough and stain resistant, the straps keep her secured, and it has a big range of adjustment to accommodate growing kids. In my eyes, money well spent. We have her wear a helmet permanently though, she can deal with a little discomfort for the sake of safety.

I've also had her fall asleep on Benoni Country Club's trail. Adorable.

I got the Polisport Koolah from Sportmans Warehouse when my little 1 was around 19 months and she loves it. Our trail of choice is the Green belt, Greenpoint Park and Seapoint. I'm a roadie, but when it comes to family time in the forest, the Polisport is perfect and well priced @ R1300. Only negative is the added weight on the back, on steep climbs when applying force it feels like the bicycle wants to take off (wheelie) so you need to shift your weight to the front.

What about one of those trailer things? They can take 2 little ones next to each other. I will need to look into that soon with a toddler and then the twins. I have the giant seat on a bike I built up purely for taking my lightie for a ride. Only thing about the trailer is I don't think it can go off road at all.

Sounds like some of you have angels for children. Every now and then I re-consider the option of riding with my boys (3 years and 19 months) to try and get more time on the bike... but they don't seem to buy into this. I have a trailer, rear seat and seat that bolts onto the top tube (not sure if it can handle this  :whistling: ). I only use these on my mountain bike (a hardtail).

-Neither of the boys can handle the trailer for long - the bumps seem to be exaggerated and the back tire sprays them with sand and mud...

- As with the trailer the rear seat exaggerates the bumps and I found that after a shortish ride on a not so hot day the boy in the back was seriously overheating as he was sheltered from any cooling breeze behind me...

-the seat on the TT between me and the handle bar works well for my eldest but he has too much energy to sit for very long and, as has been mentioned, i have to drop the seat to be able to use it and that means riding with knees bent out - which is not very comfortable.

So basically doing a decent length ride with my boys sounds like an awesome idea but it reality it has never ended without enough tears and moaning to make me pack away the various carriers for a couple of weeks.

That's unfortunate dude. The longest ride we've had with my daughter in the carrier was 1h15, so not exactly the Epic, but she usually falls asleep around the 45-50min mark. Prior to that, she chats away, pointing out any wildlife and random trees. She digs it and asks me when we're going riding again a few times a week.

Different strokes for different folks I guess (different excites for different tikes?).
