Are you following the category for ebikes on the hub so you can get notifications as and when people advertise items for sale?

Ive seen a couple of levos for sale already, you won’t wait long - which might beg the question why ebike? (Levo is by far the best product IMO - but they tend not to stay stuck to their owners, can’t help but feel that living the ebike dream is t what it’s cut out to be)

A few reasons:

1. Progression in technology. A 2018 e bike will be more advanced in terms of output, battery life, etc.

2. People buy e-bikes for a spouse and the bike simply gathers dust.

3. People under-estimate the cost of servicing bicycles. People new to cycling use e-bikes as a mechanism to get into cycling, but are often discouraged once they realize what the hidden costs are.

Given the number of Levo’s sold by Specialized, I am surprised that the re-sale rate is so little.

32km/hr with the approved software "Canadian" version updated by Specialized SA or approved store on the software.

Does not void the warranty and works like a charm!

Thanks!

I just got mine Levo Carbon Thursday, unfortunately couldn’t ride it yet (another story), but the spez tech told me it was 32, I was in doubt, because he also told that the bike came with the latestet firmware and I prove him not, glad to know that is right on the 32km\ h that is very cool, he also said that feature firmware updates won’t change the original cut speed, happy days

I commute to work. 10k. Easy. Takes about 25min. Now I have a potential job offering in cbd. I stay in durbanville. Ebike could be the way forward here. Question is. Mtb turbo levo/giant full e+ vs hardtail commute bike. I'm torn. Alternative is to htfu and just commute the 29km.... May be a bit much if I finish late.

Spoke to someone who uses a ebike to commute to work (about 25km) had some witchcraft done to the software and runs over 40kph. But if I had to buy a motor assisted 2 wheeler for commuting and looking at those prices it would probably be a used R6, CBR 600 OR GSXR or a supermotard to keep maintenance cost down.

I'm with you on this one. While I love the idea of an e-bike for commuting, we live in SA with moerse dangerous roads - yeah a motorbike is also dangerous, but less so than a bicycle on the road - well that's been my experience anyway. And with the cost of a Levo, I'd rather buy a F800GS, Kawa Er6n, and the list goes on... Fatser, safer, cheaper (both initially and maintenance), and you can park it without it being stolen.

That is of course if the sole purpose is a commute, if you will be hitting the trails on the weekend then the Levo isn't a bad idea.

If you do go the e-bike route and jippo the speed limiter just keep in mind that you void your warranty. You can play around with wheel size on the Specialized app and move the limit (within warranty) to 32km/hr.

Turbo Levo FSR - best you can buy and the bike can go up to 40kmph

Then you have a allrounder, can ride on trails and tar.

Eco Mode and you have a good workout as well

If you go e-bike go for the Levo, but my opinion, HTFU - build a lekker drop bar gravel bike style commuter.
