stopped at a shop in a long mtb ride, wanting to buy a tube. "need a 27.5 tube" ..... "which bike?" .... "Cannondale Habit, why you ask" ..... "people sometimes buy the wrong tube, we always ask" .... "probably a good reason" .... "how are you going to fit it when you are on a trail, that is what I have against the Lefty, it is a such a hassle to remove the front wheel when you have to install a tube" .... "oh really?"

that shop sounds spaztic!

@KARMA see I told you there are some negatives riding a lefty...now even the bike shop agrees :-)

If you could see it, why'd you ask if they have it?  :whistling:

Well the full story is it did involve me walking across to the workshop, where they wouldn't let me in, at which point I uttered the revelation.......in broad Scots followed by "I'll even have some of that pal!"

But forgive a 54/55 mamil's eyesight who couldn't see if the outer was lined or otherwise.....

Why would you want a single cog for a cassette? Am I missing something? Are they available loose? Did you eventually get what you wanted?

A 30t chainring is another story though.

I am weak, I wanted to change the biggest cog to a bigger 30t cog.

And yes, my non franchise LBS pulled out his calculator, did some sums on the differences it would make and then changed it for me on the spot.

repay your non franchise LBS by referring him to online gear calcs ... saves some time :P

Bad/Disorganized workshops are a thing everywhere

Heard of a bikeshop cabletieing brake and shifter cables to a bike's top tube even though the bike had cable mounts...

and took a windsurf sail to a place that repairs those and poof, sail gets lost in the mess...

My very first MTB ever, many years back, and I knew absolutely nothing about bikes at the time. Bought it for cheap, I could hear and feel something wasn't right so I took it for a service at an awfully popular bike shop around Durbanville. Got charged something like R500 back then already for the "full" service but was guaranteed the bike is now perfect, took it for a spin there after and there was no improvement.

Took it to another shop, and after R 3000 and a new chain, cassette, brake pads, etc etc, the bike was fine. The cassette was actually covered in rust on the inside and the brake pads were non existent, and said awfully popular bike shop saw it fit to probably adjust the gears and make a quick buck out of a noob. Will never let them touch a bike of mine ever again.

My most recent fave:

When wanting to order a 170mm 2 x 10 xt MTB crank for my missus (notoriously short) the importers of said Shimano product informed our intermediary, that they do not have nor will they order such redundant old technology... everything is changing to 1 x

So off to CRC, had my parts 3 days later.

I wonder if that importer will be keeping their Cool with all the Heat they will be getting from the end user / cyclist if they keep up that attitude.

When asking if it is normal that the sole of my MTB shoe has pulled completely off from the shoe itself in just out of the warranty period, was told yes, you probably got mud or water on them.

Seriaas.

Not even a cloth to cover the air can. Can see the tooth marks from where it gripped.

Also - a Revelation wasn't getting full travel "because it has an all mountain damper, not a cross country damper"

erm.....

Seriously.

Same person, too.

I for real thought you were trolling...that's hectic.

I imagine that guys interview went a little something like this when he got hired.

I see what you did there.

This is part of the reason we start cutting out local shops/importers, but they ask why...
