Pressure reveals character or maturity.

Sammy boy, grow up, cupcake

That is a really easy statement to make when you're in a comfy armchair...

Hell - I once launched my beloved SSer into the bushes during a stupidly muddy race. That little snapshot is totally out of character for me. If that's all you saw of me you'd have completely the wrong idea.

That said - his middle finger could be written off as a once off. Combine that with more hissy fitting after the finish line and his character ain't looking great....

i hope none of those complaining about Gaze, even after he's apology watches soccer and enjoy it.

he's still a youngster, and he apologized!

we have more love for Chris Froome because he's African and he doesn't have a doping charge that still not cleared up

I have no clue what racing at any level feels like or how much work and preparation goes into being the top in your sport in the world. I can only imagine that the sacrifices can consume you and that winning becomes the only thing?

I have read many many interviews with top sports people that all claim that your sport will humble you if you do not respect it and your competitors. My opinion is that the Nino's and Sagan's of this world are examples of athletes that enjoy the respect of their competitors and are rated by them. Surely this is the biggest accolade an athlete can receive?

Time will tell where Sam Gaze will be rated. His actions and demeanor however was not befitting of a champion or indeed of an ambassador to this great sport.

Peto was not always well respected!

The future will reveal Gaze's personality - this one incident will not make or break him....

I speak with understanding athletes and high-performers when under pressure.

Sam did not exercise any form of emotional control and general sportsmanship in his heated moment. It wasn't just a flash of behaviour which is understandable. Like a reflex.

This was a protracted episode of poor attitude.

If you want to compete at the highest level, these are critical skills for success. Not just for the individual. But also for the Kiwi brand and the Spaz brand.

I do get your point, Eldron.

And this issue....forgot about this one!

And how he has grown.

He's a Pops now too.

Let's see whether Sammy can learn and grow from his tantrum.

I love coincidences - like the dude in your avatar with his hand on a ladies arse with you hub name on his chest in the pic I just posted

Sam probably just needs a better psych coach I reckon.

This ZAP is so funny. Just checked and it is whilst he's in the pits - dude in blue has just picked up a dropped bottle.

He's done it during the race and the other leaders are way beyond the pits by now. Of course they'd be out of sight.

Some sports you'd be disqualified for doing this during the race.

what would nino do?

even though he's probably k****n himself for the next XCO

I heard from someone who was at the Stellies mtb World Cup the Nino threw his toys out the cot after losing. Said he never expected that from Nino :-(
