Hi Guys

Some sage advice needed please on deciding on a new bike.

Firstly I am looking for an XC bike for likes of Sani2C, Berg & Bush etc. I am 58 and not a racing snake.

My budget is R45k.

I was riding a Silverback Mercury dual sus until the frame broke on /sani this year. weighed in at 14kgs so on the heavy side

So I have narrowed it down to:

Lapierre SR 629 - R41 500 - on special from the agents

https://bike-addict.co.za/products/lapierre-xr629-2017

Cannondale SI 4 Carbon - R40 500 @ Bike Addict - worried about the availability of Cannondale proprietary parts

https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/cannondale-29er-dual-suspension/products/cannondale-si-carbon-4-2018

Merida Ninety Six - XT - R40 000

https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/clearance/products/merida-ninety-six-xt-2018

Any other suggestions?

Your advice/comments would be greatly appreciated

I like the look of the Lapierre but rear stays have flex when under power and Merida has old style geometry it would have to be the Cannondale out of those. Best xc/marathon dual would be Scott Spark but not sure if you will get a carbon 1 in your budget.

PM me. Can do you a great deal on a Giant Anthem 1 2018 model.

FWIW, I'd look at a more trail-oriented bike for two reasons: 1. You broke your last bike and 2. You're not racing.

For example, a bike like the Pyga Stage Max is built stronger than the XC-oriented Stage for a small weight penalty, which in your case doesn't really matter.

You'll probably be more comfortable with the slightly slacker geometry and more travel of a trail-oriented bike, especially downhill.

I'd be weary of the Cannondale if you're a heavy rider. Their frames crack a lot. Yes, they'll be under warranty, but still a pain.

I am 90kg and the frame got broken in a crash.

I will   look into the trail bikes. thanks for the advice

At that price point go for the new Giant Anthem... an amazing bike

Will definitely look into it. The Giant 1 may be slightly over my budget of R45K. Thanks
