You okes are amateurs. A bike box easily fits on the backseat of an Uber. The little ones. None of this XL cheating. I've done it several times with both an Evoc bike bag, as well as a cardboard box.

And here we are with two MTBs in boxes in the back of a Ford Figo, on the way to Sani2C (and bags etc).

I've done 2 bike boxes in the back on an Atos and 2 passengers in the car. Cape Town airport to Fish Hoek. (it was not pretty nor was it safe or comfortable).

Alternatively, just flag down a mini bus taxi, and take 12 mates, their bikes, partners, partners bikes and luggage with in a single trip. Share the fare... win win

I used one of those to take my MTB to Durban. Got it in the uber to the airport and small rental car on the back seat and paid the +/- R200 baggage fee on Kulua. All worked out fine.

I had a look at it yesterday and it's smaller than the box. Due to the wheels having to come off in the bag and the back wheel still on the bike when in the box. Plus it has straps which will make it a bit easier to lug around.

Just one question... when i take the back wheel off, what do I do with the derailleur? without the back wheel that's what the frame rests on. Do I loosen the hanger, twist it in and bubble wrap?

Wheels off in the box or back wheel on?

The box I have is big. It fits the bike with the rear wheel on, which makes it that size and there's little room left in front of the shock.  :whistling:

A Hyundai (or is it an Hyundai?) i10 takes 2 29er boxes, 2 bags and two passengers. I'd say with ease, but I'd be lying. The 4 hour trip from OR Tambo to Swaziland with your knees around your ears was probably more torturous than the ride that we did :P

To fit on the back seat you have to take the wheels off, so a roadie bike box (or Evoc). If you have a 29er box, you can leave the wheel on, but you will have to put the rear seat flat.

Hi

Off to durbs for 2 weeks and decided to take my bike with me. I don't own a bike bag so bought a 29er cardboard box from cwc. It's pretty big!

so the question is, will it fit into an uber or a toyota corolla?

Just wondering if anyone has done this before. Ubered with a big bike box and luggage I mean.

Why don't you just ride to Durban... Freedom Challange in reverse :)

Problem Solved.

The Sportsmans warehouse bag is great. Way smaller than the box and it fits into the back of a normal size car.

If anyone in Cape Town wants a cardboard box to fit a 29er in... let me know.

RRP - R250

but you can have it for free!
