  1. 1. Do you do it?

    • I only text when I am stationary at traffic light, I know it is still illegal but I pay the fine and it has nothing to do with you.

    • I only use my phone when I need the GPS function, yes it illegal but I need to find my destination.

    • I don’t touch my phone while driving, will stop to text or get GPS ready.

It's Friday; I confess; I used to try and text and drive but since nearly having one or two little accidents; no more. Cold turkey and 3 years or so clean. Because it is really bleddy dangerous (see the dismount thread of the cop who just looked at his phone (he said) and took out a cyclist).

The problem is I sometimes passenger with drivers who do it and it is irritating and a bit scary, let alone good cause for an argument.

Just don't do it.

I am not saying that using a phone in a car is clever.

But someone with hayfever, sneezing, is clinically blind for a good while during any attack. Food on the lap is worse than answering a phone in a handset, especially if it's a boiling hot vindaloo. Some are legal and some are not. But all are distractions. My personal issue is tiredness, and mostly now that I am driving on dead straight highways where I dare not speed. Putting the car on cruise and listening to a podcast is flippen dangerous.

But so is life.

I typed this driving home.

Edit: after.

Who would watch YouTube while driving!

I find PornHub much more entertaining

Phone in one hand, todger in the other. Knees on the streering wheel.

Haven't had an accident, uh, vehicle accident, in years.

As with most things things life, it’s not about one problem.

There are many many things that are dangerous to do while driving. Drinking, excessive speeding, drugs, reading etc etc.

This conversation is about one of the dangerous things. That does not mean the other problems are less relevant in the general sense.

Texting and driving is a new thing, and people need to have good discussions about it as it hasn’t been fully unpacked yet. We didn’t have WhatsApp and YouTube in our lives just a few years ago. Speeding and drink driving have been problems for a while and I’m sure similar conversations happened when it first became a real problem.

The solution to all of those problems is the same, sadly. When driver less cars are perfected there will still be some clown who has added a phat exhaust and accidentally disconnected the compassmajig.

New things are a symptom not a cause.

Many many years ago I was told a story by a chap who.. After a night of spading persuaded a young lady to come back to his house. Both in separate cars they headed off to his house which was known to her. It may be been the drink talking but En route he decided it would be beneficial to both if he knocked one out... And proceeded. Whilst stopped at a light and busy with the process (bearing in mind it's 2in the morning or something) the young lady rolls up next to him and sees him well into the short strokes.... He never did tell us what transpired.. But I can only imagine it would have been somewhat awkward
