  1. 1. Do you do it?

    • I only text when I am stationary at traffic light, I know it is still illegal but I pay the fine and it has nothing to do with you.

    • I only use my phone when I need the GPS function, yes it illegal but I need to find my destination.

    • I text and drive, I have not killed anyone YET

    • I don’t touch my phone while driving, will stop to text or get GPS ready.

    • I text and drive, mind your own business

Things like this all looks like fun until it goes horribly wrong.!

YIP never mind being illegal but IF he involved in even the smallest accident, he has reduced his kids chance at survival to ZERO

What's worse?:

1. skipping a red traffic light / not stopping at a STOP?
2. driving in the oncoming lane?

3. driving while drunk?

4. driving while high?

4.a. driving while drunk and high?

5. driving while texting?

6. driving while applying makeup?

7. driving with a coffee in the hand?

7.a. driving while texting, while eating cereal, while trying to drink your latte and flipping the bird to the person hooting at you to move?

8. driving with a bowl of cereal in the hand, spoon in the other?

9. driving while recording a whats-app voice note? (I just love how people seem to justify that one)

My take? None is worse than the other. They are all just selfish behaviors performed by an entitled and lawless generation. We have now entered the final stage of human existence, whereby Generation Y has become Generation Stoopid.

For sure, if he is THAT dumb then the kids wont be to clever either.

I have NO issue if someone wants to ENDANGER teir OWN life but when you text behind me in a car EG you are endangering MY life.

Fully agree with you and when you point out their Lawlessness you get the "how is it YOUR problem"

You know when you these things you are endangering MY life and I have FULL right to hoot at you.

I think we should start and name and shame our fellow cyclist driving like idiots also

Alas the thick as a plank parents will survive - it's little Johnny and Betty that will reap the unfortunate rewards of having stupid parents!

There is a higher probability that that is Koos and Karel-Johannes.

My normal morning commute is done around 6:00 ... before the roads get busy.

Today I left home after 7:00, and had to join the peak hour traffic .... SCARY !!!

200m from my house a fully branded bakkie pulls out in front of me.  I decide to turn off and take another route, as this guy now idles along ... two blocks later our routes combine, and he pulls out right in front of me !!  At the robot there are two lanes, with this well branded company vehicle in the right hand lane .... when the lights turn green he drives leasurely and turns right, straight in front of two cars crossing from the other side !!

Next second a Furtuner pulls a Fast&Furious move through 3 different lanes to get in front of me, and turn left at the next robot ...

On the N1 things went surprisingly good ... just one person in a luxury car that drove "eratically" ...

Off the N1 a sedan that parks inside my boot .... to pull over into the slow lane and slow down to way below the speed limit .... and then to pull into the yellow lane and dart past 20+ cars ....

Just before I got to my destination one more car pulled out right in front of me ....

PS - my cars headlights DO work, and it WAS switched on ....  :whistling:

It is dangerous out there !!  Even when we are in a car .... I would hate to commute on a bicycle with such idiots driving all round me ....

I dont know to what extent text and driving contributed to any of these situations .... but clearly some dont need to text to drive like an idiot ...

I text and drive occasionally. I hate it when I do. Only when I catch myself driving like a knob do I put the phone down. The society we've created has made this instant communication and 'reachability' a prerequisite though.  I hate that I am being unwittingly moulded to feel pressure to comply to these social norms.

ut chances are you are driving like one waaay before you think you are.

Reachability is not a problem, I get a text or whatsapp. I pull over and check it quick. NOTHING is so important that I have to do it while driving. Even if you spend your whole day in the car, any one trip is no longer that 30mins so any text can wait till then or stop every 20-30 mins and check the phone

Just yesterday there was a oke who was driving behind me texting, I gesture he should put his phone down. At the traffic light he calls me a ***** then says "How is it your problem"

Well this is how it is my problem.

You sir, drive into my car.... I tell your insurance that you were texting, you deny it.

No witnesses, so I am out of pocket for the excess while my insurance fights with yours.

My insurance goes up, I am without MY car while it is being repaired. I have to drive some little rental that does not have a T-Bar so I can not take my bike to trails.

My insurance comes back to me and tells me since you rear ended my car, they managed to claim back 60% as your insurance says that you told them I stopped for NO Reason or whatever stupid excuse you could think of

Bottom line, I am without my and out of pocket...and THAT is how it is my problem

I am calling BS on your post.

Society is not to blame for you disregarding the law, or applying common sense. Everything you do that is wrong is not someone else's fault.

What are you going to do if society decides to have a mass suicide event? Are you then also going to feel pressured to do your bit?

Not societies fault if you want to put lives in danger. It’s your choice
