Found this on international coach Joe Friel's website... It was only one ride; and it was with the most organised club in the country, but at least  it's something positive for a change!

Cycling in South Africa

I'm

in Johannesburg, South Africa for a few days on a business trip.

Arrived on Friday morning and leave on Monday afternoon. Yesterday I

rode with the CycleLab

Saturday morning group. If these riders are reflective of what's going

on throughout S.A. cycling then I can report that the sport is quite

healthy here. I can easily see S.A. becoming a world powerhouse of

cycling in the next few years.

He forgot to say "I can easily see S.A. becoming a world powerhouse of cycling in the next few years if they all don't get run over by cars when skipping traffic lights"

A nice comment. And it was great to see Burry and Sifiso on Supercycling last night. With Greg Minnaar up there too, and Barloworld doing well, SA cycling really is taking off.

When last did you go on a Cyclelab sat morning club ride ?

Although I had interviewed him, and knew his views were extremely positive, I must confess to a mild case of sweaty palms while I waited for the blog to come up.

Well done to all who offered the eminent Mr Friel such an exemplary club ride... just as well the rest of us were at the Kremetart!!!

Seriously, if we can find our party manners some days, why not every day?

You don't have to ride with them to see their faults. When they come past you on Ontdekkers and go through 90% of the lights, you do notice.

[/quote'] Then clearly you have not been on a Cyclelab Saturday ride! It does not go anywhere near Ontdekkers. The ride goes through the Cradle

I went to the talk by Joe Friel at Cyclelab on Saturday promoting his new SA Training Bible coaching company. It was very interesting, and he comes across as a nice, genuine guy that is prepared to share his knowledge.

I have used his Training Bible for some time and it is very informative.

Glad to see that he enjoyed his ride.

Mampara rides with Vernon Koekemoer.. they can see the Cyclelab group all the way from Cresta... well it must be, otherwise the statement would have been completely unfounded?
