Another question guys. Is it save to ship with Bike addict? Shipping a 30k bike to me is kinda concerning.

I also cant seem to find the weight of the new Scott Spark 960 2019 model...

OK so here is a spanner in the work, I had the same budget and looked at both bikes new and second hand. The Merida is lighter. BUT, the components are very entry level and I believe the Merida is better value.

Secondhand was way better components and apparently much better bang for you buck, but all the good deals fly. Also you do not know how much ware and tear the components have. Especially if you go 1 x .

So here is what I did:

1. found a new Ali hard tail with top of the range components (I got a Momson ali hardtail with XTR.

2. I am going to bring in a chinese dulal susser frame (cheap as chips, I think you could get away with R 6 to 8K)

3. Get a recon shock for about 3k

Then for about R 35k you get s propper dual susser with the top end components. If you were to try and buy this as a bike in a competing weight class it would be in the R 100k range.

Well that is what my plan is and what I have done. Still need to get the frame but have the bike so long.

Think about it?

Edit: I see you already have the bike. Enjoy.

There's a reason those Chinese DS frames are cheap - cos they're ***. Putting XTR on one of those things is like putting expensive lingerie on your inflatable girlfriend.

Rather spend the money where it counts - frame, fork and wheels. The rest is incidental.

Hi all, me again lol. So when I collected my bike from my local store after they did my wheels ect they pumped air into my shocks and tested it with me sitting on the bike I guess specifically for my weight and resistance. Now I've done a few rides but it feels like they've become less stiff than what they were 2 weeks ago. Do I need to pump them up again over time? Maybe Im just used to them now. How does it work?

Do I need a special pump?

They shouldn't leak but you should check them occasionally (best way to do this is by doing a sag test). Personally I like 25-30% sag at the back and 15-20% at the front (which ties in to the recommended sag for most bikes as far as I know).

And yes, you need a shock pump. It needs to be able to go to pretty high pressure on the shock and usually has a special connector to prevent losing any pressure when you remove to pump from the shock.

Yeah I dont there is leak as the bike is brand new, think Im just getting used to the bike though...

Brand new bikes also can have leaking shocks.

there was a bloke at Gravel and grape on a brand new Scalpel and as chatting to the okes from Worcster (Manic Cyles) about a leaking rear shock . It was losing 40psi during the ride.

Bumped into the guy at the Mugg&Bean in Kalk Bay and asked him if the problem ever got sorted and he mentioned that the shock had a missing seal so it was rebuilt by the agents under warranty.

Get it checked out.

However that Fox Nude shock is a notoriously difficult to set up unit. Charging the negative chamber requires you to move the shock all the way through its stroke as you inflate it 20psi at a time.

Either that way or you will re inflating it after every ride for a few weeks if you only ride on the weekends. Once he negative chamber is properly charged it holds pressure in the positive chamber

Sag for front shock is around 20% and rear shock is 30%. This in on the first option of the lock out mechanism, the 2nd one I think is where the shocks are a little bit more stiff and the 3rd one is where they are completely locked.

Sag meaning the distance the shock is travelling when I simply climb on the bike with my total weight and get off again? I used a sag tool. Will post pics

Like I said in my first post it is in the first option (open position). The 2nd option being where the shock has more resistance and the 3rd option is when the shock is completely locked, I didnt use those 2, I used the first one.

I dont have a pump as my local shop did this for me.

I just want to know if the sag in the pics are too much or not? Are they ok for my weight? (107kg)

If you are testing it properly then those results are fine.

Well I climbed on, basically balanced myself for a sec with my full weight on the bike and then climbed off. Can't see how the o ring can move further if I climb off.

Ill just ask my mate to help my tomorrow before our ride
