Any recommendations on where I can find cycling shoes - for flat pedals ?

The "known stores" around here shrug their shoulders when I ask for this ..... HAVE been looking ....

There are a number of options for flat pedals...Five Ten being the best from what I can see

I think CWC stock them

Why are you fixed on flat pedals.I would go for Shimano clipless with a broader footprint and a nice pair of trail shoes to suit...again CWC will help you

Specialised will have their 2FO Flat & Skitch shoes in all their branches. Just bought a set of 2FO flats and they're comfy AF.

CWC don't stock anything but clipless shoes.

Also - he's currently using flats on his bike, and is happy with them. Cleats are not an upgrade.

They have a pair of One Tens online

Dont be so defensive about flats....who said anything about an upgrade

Kestrels are cleat shoes.

Not defensive about flats. It's just that every time someone says they're on flats, there are 43 people who say "upgrade to cleats" cos it's "the right thing to do"

You yourself have just recommended cleats to replace them.

I have because as I said that's what I would do on that bike. There are many ways to ride a bike brother. Not everyone is into neck braces, protective ware and flat pedals.Depends on the riding and type of bike. There is more than one option and he would do well to consider them all.

Cleats or flats are all personal choice I like the security of the cleat because I am not a great downhill rider it just gives me a little feeling of being 1 with the bike, but flats with the correct shoes can improve your riding cause you can't cheat like with the cleat and gives you freedom to move on the pedals and sticking your foot out in a loose corner look at Potty he is a good example for that one.

Jip, CWC does not have any shoes for me.  Have tried a couple of times over the last 18 months.

I DO appreciate the benefits of clipless .... that said, NOT an option for me .... topic for a different day

Maybe he has?

Btw I'm not into neck braces. Tried, didn't like the restriction. Also doesn't gel lekker with climbing 1,200m on the bike.

Type of pedal doesn't matter. Agreed. Also, it doesn't depend on the bike at all. Type of riding, yes. XCO or XCM definitely would see me using cleats. General riding? Nope. Flats all the way. But then that's me. Muishond would disagree, cos his feet scream when within 5m of flat shoes.

They don't have flat shoes. The "one ten" (5-10) kestrels on the website are cleat only.

Best bet is Spaz, or Pinned.co.za or ridewithzeal.co.za

Spaz has 2 options. 2FO flat at R 2,100 or the Skitch at R 1,600. Both good options, with the 2FO being the stiffer, burlier option with more protection round the toe box and ankle.

Much appreciated !

My office is litterally around the corner from Tygerberg Cycles .... will walk over there at lunch.

PS - the new tekkies DONT grip properly on the flats ....    and proper tekkies AINT cheaper than the prices you mentioned above  :whistling:

Yep. You need the flat surface with the waffle print / sticky rubber type sole. Also needs to be stuff, but not as stiff as a cleat shoe.

Skate shoes work okay, but imo they're not stuff enough for longer days.

What flats did you ride before the 2FOs?

Also need new shoes to replace my adidas trailcross.

And you are not defensive...?Yeah right

So you dont like neck braces.

BTW the 940 is a XC bike and 90% of our trails are XC in type. The little bit of technical stuff is not heavy.

Anyway the important thing is what Chris likes and not you.

I am sure he will enjoy the bike either way.Its James Bond.
