Is the MTB too big for me?

Hi guys

Recently got into the sport of MTB, my first bike was a 26' which i had for a few months this year, did my first race WFO 70kms which was nice, want to do more races and have now sold the 26er.

Found a awesome deal on a 29er but its frame is XXL. According to the charts i should ride a XL.

But this XXL fits me nicely(according to me) only issue i see is no space between the cross bar and my "crotch" but my feet is firmly flat on the ground. My hands have bend in the attacking position.

How do i know if the bike is too big for me or if its the correct size.

Everything feels right

Some hardtails have a top tube (ie. cross bar) that attached quite high at the seatpost. As Grease monkey said if you are comfortable then it is fine. If you do a 2+ hour ride you will quickly feel in your back of knees if the size is wrong.

I agree with GM. Don't worry about the standover height. You'll know the bike is too big for you if you try add a dropper post and it can't go far enough down or you are leaning uncomfortably too far forward when peddling. Even so, the above can be solved with a few mods.

As Hairy said. We need a picture of that TT gap to judge whether you're safe or not.

Make sure you never sit on the TT either on purpose or unintentionally. Things go wrong when you do.

I had a medium because I have short legs to get the gap required I am in between medium and large 177cm have changed to a large frame gap is about a finger or 2 but the ride is much more comfortable. So I agree with the others if it feels good you have a winner!

An MTB with no stand over height sounds way too big for you.

"feels right" might sound good but if you're mot comparing the bike to anything else then "feels good" means nothing.

Do some internetting - there are hundreds of frame size calcs etc.

Give me your overall height and inseam length and I can do a very rough calc for you.
