I attended today and I must say, a bit disappointed.

Two things:

1 - Why a gate price? (I knew it, so not a surprise). You want people there. You have food and drink stalls, and vendors which all need people there. Suddenly the overpriced Foodtruck Burger of R80 becomes in reality R180. If I was a potential vendor, no way i will bother with such setups.

2 - None of the vendors (specifically for consumables) had specials. Nitecore bike light, same price as on website. Muc off, same price as at Sportsmanswarehouse (where I can even get an additional 25% of via Vitality)

Ok so you could test drive R100k bikes, but I am strarting to wonder about the purpose of these BUsiness 2 COnsumer FEstivals

I am sorry I so disagree with you just got back was a great day out even the kids enjoyed it, Pizza was R95 for a large which was more than reasonable beer was R20 and you knew about the entry fee and kids entered for free.

There are great exhibits, tech talks vids playing etc and I think this is a great way for brands to get noticed and almost all the brands are there.

If your idea was just to go to get a bargain you missed the point.

Look I am glad you enjoyed it. Being there with my boy was great, so I was reflecting (I luckily took his own bike). But I cannot see the reason for the show and so the sustainability.

It will be great if I am wrong, and awesome if it grows in leads and bounds, but I cannot see the benefits to any of the stakeholders.

Other than test driving different mtbs at the same place, you can shop better online, ride better at any trails, and eat better at most places (ok so maybe some like doing all that at the same place). Feet through the door matter, why will you put hurdles in the way of that. Even Redefine is canning parking fees at their malls.

I am taking my 12 year old son.

He has built this up in his mind to something like a combination of Sea Otter Classic and  Inter/Eurobike

I am trying to talk him down, but the expectations are so high, while I just want to fondle bike bits in an inappropriate fashion

That met if not exceeded our expectations.

I wasn't there on a shopping trip, nor for food. But my son spent some birthday money (knee pads) and got posters, stickers and a Leat cap from the sales girl who thought he was cute.

I touched and felt all sorts of carbon bit and bobs and test rode 3 bikes.

A lot of boxes were ticked and we both left there super stoked with our afternoon

BIKE FEST 2019 CAPE TOWN?

“What happened to the 2019 event for Cape Town?” has flooded our inboxes over the past few weeks as we’ve transitioned the event into a larger, broader event for 2020.

Bike Fest started as a passion project by the team from Africa’s biggest fashion production company who were all keen cyclists. During London Fashion Week in 2015, the team attended a cycle show and knew that they could do better in South Africa, and that a stand-alone weekend of everything cycling was really needed. Whether you rode mountain bikes, road cycled or even BMX’d, they wanted you covered. For enjoyment, or racing, it was to encompass everything awesome.

So BIKE FEST was borne, and the team rolled it out in 2018 to much success, and an exhibitor return rate of 94%, as well as speaker return rate of 90%. But the vision for the event was much larger, and as a cycling festival and expo are not the core business, the team looked to partner with more experienced people in the expo space, and this meant that growing / marketing / developing the platform is possible to the vision they originally had.

So for 2019, the teams are at the drawing board taking the 2020 event to new highs, all your favourite brands will still be there, the talks on everything to exploring by bicycle to nutrition remain, and partnerships with film festivals mean that another part of BIKE FEST, to offer year round experiences, will continue even bigger than before.

So we apologise to everyone who was excited to pop in and test ride bikes, catch a talk or watch a film in 2019, but we assure you that 2020 will be bigger, better and have more bikes and related things to experience than you can imagine.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us, we’re here for you.
