We have one.. My daughter is a master... I've tried and tried and tried.... And failed

I remember seeing them in a big toys r us many years ago, my brother and I each took one and rode around in the store...well until they kicked us out...I would probably not even manage to stay upright now..kids just figure things out quicker than adults.

Do a search for "unicycle training wheels". Guys have built some interesting devices to help them get started. It also seems like once you have momentum keeping it moving isn't too bad. Slow speed seems more difficult.

I found the best way to start is using a curb. Place the wheel against the curb so it can't roll back.

 

Then position the cranks so that you can start pedaling easily, put one foot on the back and start leaning forward while you put the front foot on and start pedaling!

 

So you basically have to imagine constantly falling forward and then pedaling to get the wheel back under yourself.

 

It takes a while but once your brain gets it you are sorted.
