Durbie Dash Theft

Broken into my car outside Durbanville High School this morning during the Durbie Dash.

Stole our wallets, bike pump, even car jack and jumper cables out of the boot.

Not sure if anybody else was affected by theft today?

Got access into my car by breaking into the passenger door lock with screwdriver or something.

Luckily the bikes were under our bums and not also part of the loot, but this really leaves a sour taste as ALL bike races in and around Cape Town seem to be happiest of hunting grounds for criminals.

Yes, reported it at the race information and security tent.

People were very helpful, but doesn't really change the situation...

Just an absolute schlep of having to go to the police station for a case number and deal with stopping bank cards and my Monday will be fun trying apply for new driver's licence, bank cards, ID, etc, etc

it's always the inconvenience and getting everything like drivers, ID bank cards sorted again it's worse than the loss of money and things. I hate lines and the very intelligent government staff you have to work with. If I can give a tip go to Kuilsrivier traffic department best around the northern suburbs

Bike races seems to be the new targets as they know the owners are out riding and the car guards are useless if there's any.

With the crime so hi why don't race organisers organise decent guarded parking.

cause they try pack 10000 people into areas that can properly take 2000 cause that money hungry race Organizing

and then shady parking ares are set up which are proabbly very easy to sneak in and out of

Sorry to hear I have also noticed that this is a new trend happening of bikes being stolen @ cycling events. The thieves come dressed as cyclist and walk around looking for soft targets.

Not just bike races, we went to a trail run, more than 50% of cars got broken into and car park was about 200m from the start..

Just make sure nothing can be seen through windows , and leave wallets etc at home. Bring driver license and take cash/cc with you on bike.

Yip!! Lesson has been learnt.

I've wondered on numerous occasions about a break in on my car while out at a race as my wallet always gets left behind in the boot or somewhere out of sight.

All you need with you is your driver's license, debit card and some cash in your phone pouch.

Rest can be left at home.

Security means nothing, wallets and bags stolen literally from right next to me and other guys, at the cape epic at bochendal one year at night. Security was sitting around the table in the main food tent we went looking for them
