DemiCat Posted October 24, 2018 Share Hi If this has been asked before I apologise. I need some advice regarding emergency supplies/saddle bag must haves. Not sure what I’ll need with a bike that has tubeless tires ? I’ll probably not be traveling any further than 40km in the near future, which will be off-road,gravel roads mostly. Roads are either close enough to home to get home easily,or roads where there are more cyclists than cars so it’s not like I will be stranded in a desert. What is the essentials to start with ? Thanks in advance
popcorn_skollie Posted October 24, 2018 Share Cellphone, chain link, chain tool, multi-tool, plug and small bottle topup sealent,(I prefer tyre levers and a tube instead)zip ties, nunchaku and shuriken. edit: Oh and a hand pump.
Dirkitech Posted October 24, 2018 Share I assume you're referring to both bike and medical emergencies? In urban areas I only carry this:- depending on wheels tyre levers & stick-on patches, or in your case, a simple tubeless repair kit- presta to schrader adapter (in case pump breaks and need to use petrol station pump, yes, has happened before, twice)- hand pump- cellphone for severe injuriesnon emergency items would include a small leatherman multitool, sometimes cable ties and extra cr2032 batteries. I personally think that if you monitor and maintain your parts as diligently as possible, you don't need to carry stuff like top up sealant, extra chains and links. I've never needed any of these. Spinnekop Posted October 24, 2018 Share One "bag" (old sunglass case) in the middle pocket of my shirt with the following:Small multi toolPlugs and plug toolTyre leversR50 For everything else (close to home) there is the phone. If I do races, I'll chuck a bag underneath the seat with a tube in.
ABrooks Posted October 24, 2018 Share Multitool, chain link, tubeless repair kit, mini-pump and cellphone for emergencies. On longer rides I take a spare tube. Make sure that you know how everything works beforehand you don't want to get a flat and not know how to properly plug the tyre.
Nevermore Posted October 24, 2018 Share Then dont carry a saddle bag, use a tool case. Why? Cause saddle bags are practical but uncool, and as you already probably know, cycling is not about practicality, its about coolnezzzz!Thank you. I don’t want to carry unnecessary things around. Karman de Lange Posted October 24, 2018 Share 99% of MTB rides simply take Cellphone, cash and pump. Never needed anything else. If get flat that I cannot pump, or un rideable mechanical , then phone someone to pick me up and fix it leisurely at home (Roadbike, I take tube and 1 lever/pump extra)
