Funny thing now that I think, the aircraft I have the most hours on in my logbook, the 737, I have never tested a rat or can’t remember where it sits!!! And I have done the full course🤦🏼♂️ LWB, thanks for a bit more gen on the different aeries, yeah, to be using the RAT in earnest would be a little bit of a nightmare. If lucky you would still have engine power as it deploys with loss of AC power……..however one is unlikely to lose both main gennies unless one loses both engines! My old Global XRS had 2 generators per engine, the 7500 has one per engine. I guess the manufacturer has decided it is reliable enough. As you said, highly unlikely to lose both engine driven generators at the same time…..unless due to a dual engine failure. With a single generator loss with or without an associated engine failure you have the option to start the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) in flight. There are limitations though and I imagine that to be in all aircraft. For EG in our aeroplane you can start the APU at 45000 ft but only use it for electrical power. You need to be down at 25000 ft before you can use it for bleed air extraction…….so…..in case needed for pressurisation. In the simulator they offer up many scenarios which make you think a bit……always an engine failure…..so, 2 fire bottles, left and right 1 and 2 which can be discharged into either engine. In addition Bottle 1 can be used in the baggage bay and bottle 2 for the APU. So………engine fire and both bottles required to extinguish means there is no longer APU fire protection and it must be shut down. A “nasty” sim instructor will fail a system on the operating engine so to entice you start the APU………rest assured there will be an APU fire on landing so that we can run through the emergency evacuation procedures. in reality very unlikely to all happen on the same flight but a good exercise in procedures and systems knowledge! There are many scenarios, too many to try and run through but if I can answer questions I will give it my best shot! As per another post I have sim recurrent at the end on March so am getting back into the books. I am currently on holiday so a bit slow to respond but will do so. Our aerie is currently in the UK undergoing her first 24 month check. Tis a 3 week process. I am due back to the UK to collect her around 12th Jan. Spokey Posted January 19, 2023 Share Left the UK Monday and came to Switzerland for WEF. Was a lekker short flight but cold on departure from Biggin. Had to deice due to a light overnight snow and frosting. Just the wings and tailplane was fine. Used a strange mix 78/22 of Type II fluid. Looks like 4 of them, they take off and then fly north, turn around head south and back again a couple of times. One of the four has SA flag colours painted underneath. The aircraft you saw was the BAE Hawk, a british airplane. The were part of the big weapons upgrade in the infamous Arms Deal. The aircraft you know that was sold to the US is the Atlas Cheetah.
