I was in London recently and bought this book on DC8’s to see this pic inside. I was sure I may have been on the crew that day. Turns out I was! I checked my log book when home in SA for a brief time off.IMG_0434.jpeg.8a2d07493f5d7830daaaccd9b4eeef43.jpeg

I was working at RAF Fairford for RIAT '24 (Royal International Air Tattoo) the other weekend, as I have before. It's great being there in the week leading up to the airshow - we get to see everything arrive and see the jets practising their routines. Also the US side of the airbase is active, so we see the U2 spy plane going out and coming back everyday -  no pics of that allowed though.

I like to drive up and down the display line taking pics of the planes before they let anyone in or after everyone has left. It's something you either "get" or you don't 🙂

Since the start of the Ukrainian conflict there has been alot more activity in the air by us as well.  Although the closest Air base is 100 or 200 km away, we have a US Military base not too far away.  So many exercises are conducted here and fighter jets do low fly -by often here.  So we see the Airbus A400M, Eurofighters, Tornados, every  now and then also F16 zipping by.

I was in London for RIAT but decided that the return travel on public transport was too much trouble. I would have loved to see some of those aeries but the thought of 2 to 2, 5 hours each way did it in for me.

The pics show the end of the Red Sea with Aqaba and Eilat then the Suez Canal from FL430. There is Charles de Gaul with Le Bourget behind. The Nice photo displays a bit of our aerie’s performance. Zero pax and 14800lbs fuel at take off. Airborne of 04R at Nice, cross wind turn, downwind turn and just about to turn right to cross the landing threshold at FL120……Yes, headings, released from the SID.. Finally the gorgeous IWC sponsored Spittie!

Two Gripens in tight formation buzzing around Blouberg this morning. Not sure what they are doing as there aren't any government shindings going on in town that I am aware of.
