Budget Trail Riding Brakes

This thread has created an itch, my XT brakes are p***ing me off, work great but as soon as you lie the bike down or put it upside down at least one of them go squishy. Apparently if the calipers go above the levers there is an issue? Put them in the above position for a while and a bleed is required which is a pain!

Those Curas sound good, even if I did go from R1’s to XT. Or can someone sponsor some Hopes ????

Check out the sram guide bleed proceedure, especially the part of creating a vaccum. Do this on caliper side the of xt brakes, and you won't have that issue.

Also with the funnel in lever move the lever as far up and as possible pumping the lever in these positions as pumping at these angles ensures no bubbles in lever reservoir

It's the issue with where the bleed nipple is sits on the caliper creates a small bubble right there, turning the bike as you explained this bubble then moves creating the need to pump the lever first.

Thanks Meezo, will try this. Have had brakes done at a few bike shops and by myself and no joy, my wife’s bike has the same issues!

You don't think four pots is just a marketing gimmick? I have difficulty understanding what it adds other than complexity.

two pistons that push on A much larger pad , much bigger surface area for friction

i.e. More effective braking power

Pistons definitely do make a difference, although it doesn't necessarily mean a "better" brake.

My old 2 pot hopes felt better than my 4 pot guides that just seem to turn off when they dont feel like helping you anymore.

Plus deore's just work. so keen to try them over the guides.

Read somewhere that the Cura brakes have bigger calipers which is why they rank up with the 4pot brakes, actually winning Junior DH with 2 pot. Think I’m going to give it a go, this itch is bad

Bigger pistons, but yes. Tempted to try some, but happy with my hopes

Wouldn't take them over Hope. They are just better than anything else at that price point.

A set of Hopes are right on top of my want/drool over list.
