lechatnoir Posted January 30, 2019 Share I've recently developed a nagging pain in my right wrist that appears on waking in the morning and sometimes during riding on my road bike. I've not had a fall on it, and need to get to a specialist. Can anyone recommend a specialist to go to in Cape Town? Been riding my bike in its current setup for a year, and only in the last few weeks has it manifested - I've not had a bike fit on this bike, but I took measurements from the previous on that had been fitted. Could be owing to increased time on the bike over the holidays, but I'm not sure. Perhaps just RSI from riding on the tops and hoods a lot? Would Body and Bike be a good option here? - getting two birds with one stone?
The Ouzo Posted January 30, 2019 Share my untrained uneducated guess would be RSI. do you also do a lot of computer/mouse work ? Try resting the wrist for a few days (strap it up if you must) and see if that reduces the pain. lechatnoir
V12man Posted January 30, 2019 Share Swap to using the other hand for your mouse - takes a bit to get used to it, but you should know after 10 days if you see improvement. lechatnoir

DJR Posted January 30, 2019 Share Funny you should mention it. I recently did an unusual amount of photo editing and ended up with a sore right hand and wrist. Wondered if it was just age coming to haunt the twice broken wrist, but it went away a few days after my overload of mouse-work ended. Interesting. I'll watch out for it next time. lechatnoir
mrcg Posted January 30, 2019 Share Do a process of elimination first, before seeing a doc/specialist.Just did the same after having a chest irritation recently, which worried me.Finally worked out that it was due to different activities and lots of tight, shortened muscles, exacerbated by previous shoulder injuries (luxation and broken collar bone)....and stress.Luckily I know a great massage therapist, and after one session, irritation is gone. Not saying it's the same with your wrist....but maybe you slept wrong on it, stress, overuse etc. Before throwing cash the specialists way....see what you can change or try different first (as other hubbers have suggested). lechatnoir

I have been using a brace, but I've not noticed a difference. Will try the mouse swap and ride indoors while hoping for terribly windy days to minimise FOMO fanievb and V12man

I find that after a long photo shoot, especially where I've had my camera in my right hand for plenty of time, using the trackpad on the macbook at the end of the evening is not easy. thankfully I taught myself many years ago to use my left hand for mouse work, had terrible rsi back then. Doc checked me out x-rays inconclusive etc. It turned out that I slept with my hand at a strange angle under my head in the period before waking up. It was hell some days the pain i was in, turned out that a conscious decision at bed time eventually sorted the issue out. lechatnoir Posted February 24, 2019 Share a progress report - started using one of those mousepads with the soft bump you rest your wrist on. a few weeks in, and the issue seems resolved. GaryP, V12man, V18 and 1 other
