Do tell more? Price?

So wasn't too sure what price you were looking at. I was just giving an example of what would be similar priced to the giant xtc equivalent with the specs you mentioned. But yeah it was just an option possibly. And 27.5 plus tyres does boost confidence a lot on the trails. And on your commutes to work the extra air volume in the tyre will help a fortune with comfort. For pure speed on the commute though you would prob be better off with a 29er and normal 2.2 tyres. But comfort and not much slower (depending on your legs) I'd say 27.5plus. Also I might be mistaken but I think Titan brought out a nice range of plus size hardtails which might fit your budget. But yeah it's all personal pref I guess. Its just if I had a do it all hardtail it would for sure be a 27.5plus.

11900 on bike addict. Really good value. Got all the specs you looking for. In a years time if you have spare money you can always upgrade the fork. But will still be fine for general trails and commute.

You brought it up!

26" for life!

'After many disagreements it was finally decided that the new group would be called the "26s". This name was chosen to indicate their inferior status to the other members and so the three camps were formed. The 26s, 27s, and 28s.The 26s were responsible for gambling, smuggling and accruing wealth in general and the 27s were the guardians of gang law, the peace keepers between all the gangs. The 28s were responsible for fighting...'

Hi, my name is Morné and Im part of a gang considered interior by many, but i took a gamble and got something pretty nice now, nicer than most. Through the processes of gambling and smuggling second hand parts from the classifieds, I not only secured amazing contraband but also accumulated measurable wealth because people were moving on or didn't want to be part of the 26s anymore. They are still cool though.

As can be seen...our 27(,5) brothers are here to guard the ancient gang laws of MTBing.....I just wish the majority of our 28s (700c?) bros would go pick on the Roadie gang instead and stop fighting their bros. I mean, Aren't they basically sharing a prison wife with the enemy?  :D  ;)

sorry for derailing your thread lol.

its all in good spirit though

peace mofos!

That is a sweet looking ride and all I would do is replace the front suspension with a rigid fork. With some fat/phat tekkies it will still be loads of fun on the trails and the dropper post will transform it from commuter to shredder!

Giant XTC 29” is nice. I’ve got a Giant Talon 27.5. About 10-12k new with a good Suntour fork (Epixion air fork). Very capable on trails and good for commute. I’m very happy. Momsen AL range also good value. Suntour Radon is also a good fork option for an entry level bike.

XTC is a great frame had one loved it. I would say look at the Scott Scale. More relaxed geometry making it more stable at speed and it is more fun on the trails. Plus you get the Scale in a huge amount of models to fit any budget.

Hi FJP1980

So i run a hardtail which I use both for regular commuting and trail riding (blue trails, not diamond black).

Its a 2012 GT Zaskar Pro Le 6069 alloy (strong and light), 100mm Fox Fork 32, 2x10 XT gearing, SLX Brakes. The frame is excellent. Light and strong... but very aggressive, which is nice for commuting and trail climbing, but it does take some decent skill to pilot around a gnarly downhill  :w00t:

What made a 'BIG' difference to this bike was the wheels and tyres I fitted.

  • American Classic Wide Lightning Rims - helps the tyres to have a better tread profile on the trails, and lower running pressures
  • Maxxis EXO TR tyres (29 x 2.2) on front and rear - Nice strong sidewalls, but I have opted for the lower rolling resistance Maxxis tyres that are still suitable for average trails. Maxxis Ardent Race front (running 1.5 bar), and Maxxis Ikon rear (running 1.7 bar). However, I could probably run the pressures down closer to 1 bar without issue... if the trails got really rocky or sandy.
  • When I know I am going to do a tricky, longer distance trail, I swop out the Ardent Race front with a Maxxis Forekaster (29 x 2.35)... that I run at 1.3 - 1.4 bar  without any hint of buckling or burping... which really adds some confidence when I'm on a technical track... as the Zaskar has a very aggressive head angle.

In its current guise, its averagely suited for trails and very well suited for commuting.

If I was to do more trail-riding as opposed to commuting, I would put on a dropper post and upgrade the Fox Fork to a slightly longer travel (120 - 140mm).
