The wheel turns after all

Yes the cyclists had every right to be in than lane and legally in the right. Yes the driver was an idiot...

...but is it really necessary to stand around and blocking a whole lane (thus allowing traffic going straight to flow) when they could easily be standing single file on the inside of that white line next to the other cars turning right?

I think things like this make motorist hate cyclists more than something like a cyclist creeping through a red light at an empty intersection.

Someone can correct me but elsewhere like the UK where cycling is actually encouraged there is a box at the head of the intersection where cyclists are expected to stop and wait for the light to change. It’s NOT safe to stop alongside motorists (out of the way??!) because they forget you’re there or don’t see you. Then drive over you when they change lanes (yes they shouldn’t but they do) or just drive off. If you commute regularly you will understand this. It’s what I do all the time. I also take off quickly then move out the way. No inconvenience to motorists but they are damn sure to see you unless they are blind...

Agreed on the part where cyclists (and all road users) should make life as easy as possible for everyone.

In this case though - they're in a turning AND going straight lane so if they hug the right side and a car turning comes up behind them they will be stranded between two turning cars. If they hug the left then cars going straight will keep going straight with them stranded on the left trying to cross cars going straight.

It's a poor situation but hogging the whole lane was the safest bet.

Edit: The car could have also done a bit of preplanning and been in the straight only lane (the one with the truck in).

wait wait wait, no ones calling the cyclists pricks???!!

COme on hubbers be consistent. There they are standing in the middle of the road holding up a car.

its a joking comment people try to keep calm .......however historically he raises a point that by this stage, in a thread like this, on this forum ,someone has come up with a comment somehow blaming the cyclists and excusing the idiot driver........(see above) :whistling:

so i dont know why none of you see the joke ,because its true (all the best humour is based on real life )  ^_^

It's annoying when similar joking comments are posted at the start of similar threads before any of the above has actually happened.

Please refer to Patches post above with regards to the massive chip that has been seen lately and you will understand our annoyance.

There is a space at the front at most robots here. Most swearing from drivers to me is when I pull off from the robot, they pass me and, at the next robot, I weave through and stop in the bicycle space again. Normally try and stay right on the edge of the road to give them space but this is not always possible. If there are a bunch of robots, I normally stop somewhere for a minute to let the same cars go on so we don’t interact endlessly

One person's cyclist bashing is another persons attempt at pointing out what could have been done differently. Just because a post doesn't agree with your agenda doesn't mean it is wrong on a fundamental level.

Have had this way too often here, where your intentions are misinterpreted as victim bashing and blame shifting when it definitely isn't.

It grinds my tits when in my car, stationary at a traffic light, and a bunch of cyclists come weaving through the traffic and pushes in front of me, stopping haphazardly all over the place, only to wobble away / struggle to cleat in, when the light changes. (I rate this just sort of my dislike for taxis pushing in from the side / from the yellow lane.)

I do not mind if I come up to a traffic light, and the cyclist are there already, they were there before me, I accept that. I will patiently wait for them to clip in and wobble away, but when swarming in from behind when I'm already stationary..... :cursing:

This is common practice in more refined countries, they even have marked areas right in from by the traffic lights, specifically to allow cyclists to get to the front.

There's the magic words.  It is legislated there, everyone understands it like that.

In our lawless continent, not so much.

Edit: It is Friday, is it not?

So if it was law, it wouldn't grind your tits?

Is the law the problem or your are your tits the problem?
