Apart from paid trails, there are some hidden gems out there. If you in Kyalami, take maple drive and into the bush.it goes around river sands with some beautiful scenery. Decent climbing as well. You can also head out to Cedar Road and follow the "beat the brewer" route. Its tough climbing. On this route you can also head out to the home of the chicken pie and ride around lanseria. Enjoy

Thanks for all the advice, everyone.

Definitely listening to every recommendation you guys give.

I did Big Red Barn today. Had heaps of fun. Definitely the most challenging trail I've ridden in Gauteng so far. No exciting long downhills, but there were plenty berms and jumps.

Struggled a little bit with the signage, but maybe I'm just a bit stupid

Next on my list is Wolwespruit. Been recommended to me quite a few times in this thread and people I met on the trail today suggested it too.

After that will be Buffelsdrift.

Thanks again

If you want you can tag along when I go to Red Barn again. I think I figured out the shortcuts between all the fun bits. Otherwise if you have a GPS computer I can drop you the gpx files I have built up. I am a pretty crappy rider but at least I can navigate.

In order of distance from you:

Wolwespruit

Rosemary Hill

Buffelsdrift

In order of (my) preference:

Buffelsdrift

Wolwespruit

Rosemary Hill

Did 2km of Red Barn once and went OTB so my opinion is incomplete and biased.

Can anybody point me in the direction of venues that I can go ride solo on Friday afternoons? Been doing Modderfontien, but want to go try something different.

How much travelling are you willing to do?

Out south is Rietvlei and Thaba trails.

Out west (on the other side of town from you) Avianto, crandle track, Cradle moon.

Like within about a 30 minute drive of Edenvale, main thing is it must be relatively safe to ride on my own

Then rietvlei and Thaba is my suggestion. Very safe to go on your own.

Thanks man, will give Rietvlei a go.

I would recommend Thaba over Rietvlei. Rietvlei is decent but Thaba has more challenging trails in general.

Went to Rietvlei yesterday with my nephews, most fun I have had on the bike so far, looking forward to giving Thaba a shot now.

Thanks for your help guys.
