I prefer alu. Bends right back. Usually. Carbon. If money and warrantee rebuild time wasn't an issue... Definitely.

I got some Nextie rims for my wife's trail bike build.

I opted for their premium range which uses stronger carbon and chose enduro lamination (added 20g per rim) - Rims arrived each having been x-rayed and hand weighed with the weight in grams written on a card with each wheel.

Decals are water transfer so not stickers. Think it ended up being R7800 for rims wih DT Swiss spokes and brass nipples delivered to SA. Hubs I bought here and had Nick the Wheelbuilder build the wheels.

Rims are 27mm internal and 391g and 392g respectively (or something like that) and rated for 150kg riders.

JIS!!! Thats nice!!!

Yup, wife's an ex gymnast so I trust her more with carbon hoops than myself, she screws up but almost never falls, and she rides all I do (Jonkers reds, Cobra on Hooggekraal, Lombards, new XCO). But I haven't broken my Flow Ex's since 2015, so I'm SOOOO tempted.

A bit of feedback on the Nexties that I've built so far: everyone who has them, loves them.

They build up very well, with high, even tension, and look like they're lasting well.

The nice thing about them is they're manufactured to your specs. You choose the model, width, spoke count, graphics colour and matt or glossy finish, as well as UD, weave or 3k/12k carbon pattern.

At the moment they take around 2-3 weeks to manufacture and 2-3 weeks to ship - it's a bit of a wait unless you choose a vanilla option, but well worth it.

At around R4500 per rim, the value is very good.

One of the nicest things about these rims is the weight - 25mm ID MTB 29er rims come in between 300-310g each. Consider that a Crest rim weighs 365g.... that's light!

Agree with all of the above. Note you can get them from Nick around R4500 a rim, I got them cheaper at their birthday sale and they cheated my import duty invoice (without my asking) - so when I buy again I'll just get from Nick, unless I need specific decals. (Although even then, he may get them cheaper than we can import.

Hahaha! After I saw how Danny MacAskill ride those carbon sc hoops up and down those stairs I have a bit more faith in carbon. But those Nextie wheels of hers are really good looking.

2019 - the year of the 'chameleon'.

Popular color that at the moment with plenty manufacturers. Almost like they all get together over x-mas and decide what color the 'cookie cutter' catalogs will be lol. also one of the reasons i like custom builds more tbh.

that being said...it is one of my fav colours and the only reason i sold my purple hope bling is because they were not going to work with my new build's colorway.

those wheels in that color are HOT cpelser
