Hey guys

I’m doing the Swiss epic in around 4 weeks can anyone recommend a good tyre for the 5 days of racing . I’ve just bought a new bike so the tyres are still new but listening to you guys I’m thinking I probably got to get tyres that are bullet proof . Also should I take brake pads with?

I can't advise on tires for a stage race. But yes take brake pads and take a spare hanger.

Can't comment on tyres, but popping a spare set of brake pads in your hand luggage would be a sensible idea I would think, no matter where you are going to be doing a 5 day stage race.

Whatever tyres you comfortable riding currently use them, I've been riding some of the trails of the Swiss Epic and I can't say my tyres i used in SA vs here is any better or worse.

My host owns a bike shop and he's popular tyres are Ardent F and Ikon R, the skinny versions if you a race snake, the wider versions if you not.

There weather here suggest that there's not much dust, it's 25-30 in the day then thunderstorms at night for atleast 4 days since I've been here.

The Ardent is an underrated tyre. If you have a marathon type bike with lots of weight over the front wheel or a HT, the grip is amazing. Has has a great side knob pattern so you never feel like it wont hook up in a corner. Thick sand or mud, you need something a bit more pointy though.

Also enjoyed the Ardents, more on the front than on the rear though.

Just come back from the Alps and for the first time ever, "cooked" a set of breaks and needed to replace the whole thing.

Would take pads and certainly a more grippy front tire than that for SA conditions. One can survive with anything, but one wants to have fun.
