Have been riding Forekasters for a few years now, not a very grippy front tyre in dry conditions but very grippy on wet conditions. Strangely enough on the rear it is quite grippy in dry conditions, especially over rocky sections.

I eventually swapped out the front Forekaster for an Ardent which offers enough grip in both dry and wet conditions.

In terms of durability: very good I would say. Was riding the rear tire up 3000km doing mixed terrain before I had to replace due to a snakebite. Front tire has been going for 4000 kays and is now doing service at the rear.

I had a very similar experience. I've changed to a Minion DHR at the front instead though also still running the Forekaster on the rear. The DHR has a bit more rolling resistance than the Ardent but quite a lot more grip in the corners too.

I like them, generally prefer a rounded tyre profile. So I find these roll really well but they're gnarly enough for some good old trail abuse and the knobblys are tall enough for all round trail riding.
The tread spacing also works well to disperse mud in moderate conditions.

Sometimes see riders pairing them as a rear tyre with the Minion up front, Merida spec their One-Twenty bikes like this. Although personally for this country I think they'd do better speccing Forecaster front and rear.

My Scott came with the Forecasters.

The dealer was dead set against doing a tubeless conversion with these tires.  Turns out he had a point in that I have to check and add pressure to these more often than on other tubeless tires.

My next set will be Ardent ... already bought it

Weird, I've not had this issue with mine (which are also the Scott OEM spec)

Mine has taken me up Swartberg pass, and over some seriously rocky trails on farms, many of our local trails.  As well as various events in the Western Cape.

If it was not for the very slight loss of pressure these would have been perfect for me.

That's the best way; try them and decide for yourself. It might work for you.

So, how did those Forekasters perform? Also considering one up front, as I find the Ardent I have up front keeps washing out too easily.

I've found that the Ardent generally has better cornering grip than the Forekaster (which in turn has more than the Ardent Race). Not much more but noticeable at least in my experience.

I've actually kinda moved off Forekasters and Ardents (although I might chuck them back on for a wet race). At the moment I'm running Ikons front and back on my XC bike and DHRs on my Enduro bike.
