Repair or Replace?

What Morne said but use fishing tackle instead. You can then patch it on the inside for extra assurance.

It is also worth replacing your sealant because it looks to me like your sealant isn't up to the task. I normally only use Joe's or Stans but there's a brand in CT that I've been wanting to try (can't recall the name now).

I've just replaced the sealant, I only use Stans. Personally i think that the side walls are too thin to actually hold the plug properly.

Those sidewalls are crap. You can stitch it, but I would throw it away and replace it with something that has a decent sidewall. If you must stay with a spez tyre then at least get it in a GRID sidewall.

I've heard that the GRID sidewalls are better and stronger. I'm not really brand loyal so any recommendation is appreciated?

What replacement do you recommend? the Fast Trak has awesome rolling resistance so looking for something similar.

Something i learnt the other day...my back tyre kept going flat...it turns out the rim tape wasnt holding the tyre on the rim tight enough...apparently it is called burping...when the tyre releases air between the rim and tyre....which could have resulted in another bad accident.

.

Maxxis tyres will also burp if ridden too soft.

IMO if you are relying on rim tape to keep a tyre on the rim then your pressures are too low.

Grid is definitely thicker and more robust. I've had one fail (developed a wobble I'm the casing,) but it was warranteed, so it may have been an isolated case.

There are a myriad of tyre advice threads. Best you do a search and filter out the advice for tyres that are not appropriate to your needs.

I feel trying to patch a sidewall, even more the rear tyre, is risky.  Taken the movement, radial and lateral, it has to go through during rotation, and the patch not performing the same as the tyre, might be a cause for continues failures.

I've also fixed a hole before with a regular patch, like for inner tubes, glued to inside. Clean well, like NSBB said, and roughen up with sandpaper just like pre-tubeless days.

I have done the same for my gravel tyre after picking up a piece of glass that created a large hole that simply wouldn't seal. I have ridden around 2500km since with no issue - may be worth a try to get some more distance out of the tyre.

That's the idea as the tyre only has about 1600Km use but if i need to replace then i will.

The tyre is two years' old.

Throw it away and buy a new one.

you're applying SA taxi-logic to a ZAR700 replaceable / consumable item.

It's not that i'm not going to replace the tyre but merely asking if the tyre was repairable and worth repairing. No SA taxi-logic being applied
