SLowbee,

if your bike is a 29er you can fit anything from a 23C Road tyre to a 29X2.4 if the frame allows the latter.

If a 2nd set of wheels is not an unreasonable expense simply get another set of compatible MTB wheels and fit the speediest tyres for the purpose you require it for. 29er = 700C (622mm tyre bead diameter)

So that would be

700X25C

700X28C

700x 30C

700X32C

700x33C

etc

etc

I did run 43c Panaracer gravel kings on my hardtail - they roll decently on the road and brilliantly on gravel. I do a few rocky sections and a few sandy sections and they are fine too

But now that the Open hardtail is my only Mtb I have gone back to proper tyres

You know you want a proper dropbar gravel bike - you keep finding ways not to justify it

Do it - in my case it made sense and as a result sold my dual sus as the gravel bike fulfils my needs

You know you need this gravel bike

I know I need a gravel bike, my body however thinks differently.

Any form of suspension will help collapsing disks and broken wrists

No, I removed the mountain bike tires on my existing set of wheels. My sealant was due for a top-up.

But I also added those thick yellow liners between the tube and tire. I think this is a must  :)

I'm not going to use them again but it will be quite bulky to send down to you, they're not foldable

Rob, did you run the semi slicks on a second set of wheels ?
