Momsen Race vs Momsen Trail

I do agree, riding the bike is most critical, and do ride at least more than 1 size. The problem with sizing guides are that they do not consider body types, weight, arm length/leg length ratio. Then there are also slight differences between brands. I know I am comfortable on a Medium Trek, but feel like dying on a medium Cannondale or Spez, for both of them I need to ride a large.

You are talking Joburg2C, that will require many, many hours of long training sessions. Comfort & efficiency will be critical. Consider a bike that can carry 2 bottles in the frame so that hydration does not become an issue. I believed that 2 bottles in the frame was just a marketing gimmick, until you have that ability you do not really appreciate the added distance you get without hydration anxiety. It is almost like range anxiety for eBikes.

Good afternoon all. I am looking at the Momsen range, and need assistance. What is the better choice between the Race and Trail? I am no technical rider yet, the aim is to get into stage riding like the Sani and the Joberg2C. Which will be better suited to a 47 year old male with a slight boep and not so racing built?

Have you considered the Giant Anthem 1

I did a custom build on the 2018 Vipa trail - 130mm up front and she is very very capable and no slouch on the flats or climbs.

I'm no racing snake and north of 90kg.

Which brands offer 2 bottles currently? I do sweat a lot, so hydration is key for me. And a Camelbak is hot on your back.

1.88m. I am no racing snake.

Strange that you say the XL frame is too large for you ....

Have you considered going for a professional bike fit ?

It is possible the reach and height of the handle bars feels "strange" ..... but the frame size looks at things like your leg length vs the seat vs the pedal position, etc etc .... I would guess those dimensions are correct (baring some fine adjustments) on the the XL frame.  You may need to play with the handle bar position until you get back in shape ....

At a mere 1,76m I am riding a L frame size ....  Initially I bought a M frame, which soon become apparent was too small !!!  Then bought the L frame size.  I raised my bar when I got the bike, and actually dropped it a bit last month.

Hi Chris,

Apparently the Giant frame geometry differs from the rest, and they are larger.

I had a fitment done, the saddle cannot be moved more forward, the reach is still a bit of a stretch.

I had myself measured at Lynnwood Cyclery today, and a XL Spez is my size. However, I had myself measured last week at Cyclelab Megastore Lynnwood, and according to them a Large Scott Spark is my size, but a XL will also work. But on Giant I MUST beon a Large... I am confused.

My Giant Anthem is such a nice bike, and I love it on tar and open dirt roads, it is just in single-track that I struggle with the handling.

I ride off-road motorcycles, so being off-road does not scare/bother me.

Giant frames are different. I'm 1.92, on most bikes I need an XL but with Giant I fit an L

JIP .... sizes differ widely between brands ....

To confuse matters further ... sizes differ INSIDE brands !!!  I have a friend that owns a couple of Giants .... Two different models, both the same frame size, are actually very different in size !!  To the point where he is selling the one which is "too small", while the other model fits him perfectly.

at least you DO understand.    Whatever brand and model you buy, just please make sure THAT frame is the correct size for YOU

And YES, for what you are describing .... search further and make sure you get a "dual bottle" frame    This certainly is a "limitation" of the Spark 940 ..... though a large bottle (and the water tables) gets me there  :whistling:

You can buy direct and sometimes they have good deals and demos

but difficult to find a demo, or even shop models to make sure you get the correct size ....

came close to buying a Pyga .... but went with the Scott.  As much as I enjoy the Scott, I do find myself looking at the Pyga's ....   :whistling:

Lovely!

Pity you don’t see them at dealers.

You are in Pretoria, go to Trailwolf. They always have demos availability of the range, and you can ride them.

Had a Pyga, converted many others to Pyga, now I just sit and watch from the side. They are lovely, ride really nice but will not buy one again. When I had issues with mine, there was zero interest from Pyga to assist. I cannot for one moment criticize the product, I however need a brand to stand by their products.
